  1. All Good advice brother but…..There is only one reason I am forced to build my own, my zip code. Oh and flipping the bird to tyrants who make unconstitutional city ordinances :-))

  2. I built my AR myself, two uppers for one lower. Next lower will be a lot nice with an upgraded trigger group, ambi safety added. My current lower has a ergo-rubber grip and basic milspec parts plus a B.A.D. Lever

  3. Awesome video & opinion. My 2 cents: for the first time builder, if you are trying to build a cheaper than off the rack AR, don't. Chance are that even with all the great videos out there, you will not be able to build a cheaper AR15, than what you can buy a off the shelf Smith & Wesson MP Sport for & The S&W will most likely be more accurate & reliable. On the other hand, if you want to make your ideal perfect AR15 & you have a decent sized budget, that includes enough for all the specialized tools that will make building a AR15 a breeze, go for it. I have a ton of friends that have spent twice as much as I have, replacing parts on store bought AR15's, to get it to where it was the perfect rifle for them. Building a AR15, using only your idea of the perfect parts & only buying the parts you want, is saving money that can be later spent on ammo & training. Not to mention the loss of space for that little box that has all the parts you replaced, that you will never reused & never throw away. About Ergonomics, buttstocks, hand grips & hand guards, everything feels good, until you try someone else's gun & you like it better than yours. Don't sweat it, these are the easiest to replace & cheapest parts on the AR15. Chances are that if you bought quality parts from the start, that one of your friends will want the parts that you originally built the gun with. With new designs of foregrips coming out every week, I keep rethinking what I should mount on my main gun….. knowing that what makes sense in my head, doesn't always work in the desert & that I really need to spend a little time actually shooting in a variety of positions before I can call it a keeper….. so I keep all the non-mounted foregrips in another box, for trading with friends, when they get something they don't want or need…. I wish I had slightly bigger hands. So in my opinion, the main reason to buy a AR15, is that you are on a tight budget or have no real desire or skill to build one. The best entry level AR15's that I have seen are made by Smith & Wesson, Savage & Alpha Shooting Sports, but please search out your own reviews of these guns & come to your own conclusions. Lastly, do not blindly buy parts on Ebay or Amazon, chances are that someone already has a YouTube video review on it & it may be total crap?

  4. Has your opinion on building or buying an AR changed at all with the new CA laws in 2017-2018? I'm a new gun owner and just got my first handgun a few months ago. I want an AR now but, it seems like I'll either be changing all kinds of parts to make it CA compliant or have to break the rear pin out to change a mag. I'm still unsure what I want to do.

  5. I just went through this when buying and very first AR. I would recommend going out and doing a ton of research. Go to your local gun shop and talk to the guys and ask a lot of questions. Things like "Which caliber" "What is barrel twist" "What sights do I need" are all things you should figure out before you even thing about picking up a complete AR.

I would reccomend people piecing together there first AR, even if it means buying a complete upper and building your lower for the first time. But there are so many ways to go about buying an AR, complete or custom built, just make sure to do your research before spending upwards of a thousand dollars on a gun.

  6. I haven't built a upper yet; done two builds and own two. I decided to get a complete BCM upper for my last build a 300 Blackout 9" pistol as that round is a little more difficult and new. It turned out good and I enjoy having custom features in it that is hard to buy off the shelf; like a law tactical folding stock adapter, phase 5 tactical one piece bolt release lever, KNS trigger pins.

  7. I own a POF Renegade that is amazing! But I LOVE FRAKEN RIFLES!!!
I have learned the hardway with an empty wallet more than a few times.
You have to remember when buying that the barrel and the blot carrier are the heart of the rifle. You build around those two items IMO.

  8. I'm look'n to get an AR build (maybe?) I don't know yet. Can you answer a question I have? Can I put on an 300 Black Out Upper on to my 5.56 Lower unit? Or does it have to be a Special Lower with more Strength built in to it for the 300 Upper????

  9. i dont own an AR15.. no experience at all, but I'm building it right now.. i just keep on reading about AR15 parts and even between gas port length and picking up between gas piston and Direct gas impingement, i already finished the lower receiver with FDE pistol grip, FDE trigger guard, FDE magwell grip. "that's magpul of course" since I'm not buying all parts at once.. it wont hurt my budget spending pretty much.. because i considered it as a project for myself..

  10. I bought my first 2 AR then I built the rest. Now I don't even wanna build no more with PSA prices on uppers and lowers, I just mate the two. I do still build one occasionally but I do really slowly so my wife don't catch me doing it. Because she will ask what nation am I supplying for the zombie apocalypse.

  11. I have never bought a built AR. I am 95% done building my featureless now, and I had very few issues. I don't have any special roll pin punches, and I still didn't have any problem. My only issue was having the Magpul wrench slip off the compensator torquing it around to alignment. It rounded the corners slightly, which really irritated me. The Magpul is a fairly crappy wrench for that, but it is super thin. I should have used a better wrench. There were a few steps in the process that experience and attention to detail would help with. My gas tube was moving about .030 each time the BCG cycled. I bent the tube very slightly until it didn't move at all and slipped cleanly into the BCG. Would have worked fine as-is, but probably the tube will last longer, unless it bends right back when it gets hot. As I said.. little minutia and experience I don't have. The Magpul vice block did really come in handy.

  12. from my experience I was impatient before the election had the option of m&p 15 and a aero precision lower and I got the lower because I wanted to choose every part and I went to 5 places in 1 day and got parts for as cheap as I could find them and started my build that night and had to wait a week to put barrel on the upper and it was gust rating I wish I would have got the 700$ s&w I ended up dumping 1250 total it looks bad ass but I personally wish u would have got the s&w and saved money and would have built my 2nd ar 15.
