My 5 Favorite Red Dots

Hot take aimpoints are extremely overpriced and objectively worse than Eotech in almost every metric besides battery life with a +30% cost increase, I started a job in nuclear security and we exclusively use T1s and T2s and mind you we carry the guns far more than we shoot them but they are completely beat to shit just from being carried around, granted they still work but I still enjoy the minimal parallax with eotechs and the couple hundred dollars saved

Which red dot would you recommend for a Canik mc9 prime? This will be my first time using a red dot so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone talks about the brand of red dot, but what I don’t hear is anything about the SIZE of the dot they use ? 2moa, 3moa, 3.5moa, or 6moa ? I’m sure it comes down to preference, but I still don’t hear anything about it ! Just saying

While it wasn’t on this list anywhere, I recently bought my wife and I both an Osight SE (green) for our micro 9’s for about $189/each on Amazon (she initially wanted an eps carry until she saw they were 400+ at our local range). I was wondering about anyone’s insight on the long term reliability of these and what to potentially expect in the future quality-wise

Could you do a review of the new ish osight optics? The x is there rmr footprint 507 comp adjacent dot, and then they have a xr which is a close emitter rmr footprint dot, and an se which is a closed emmiter rmsc dot. Would be nice to hear what you think about them

Buy a holosun or vortex and a sig Romeo 5 and spend the rest on ammo and training with your iron sights . Better investment for the common man who lives on a budget. 😊

I also found that the Vortex Defender CCW battery cover does need to be tightened against more-than-typical O-ring resistance. But once fully tightened, I’ve never had any battery intermittence. But the CCW and ST & XL (w/their DPP mounts) have been absolutely fabulous for me. I like the 7075 (thick) aluminum body (which Holosun and others now also use). While the meat tenderizer texture is a bit gimmicky, Vortex optics are STOUT. I have been using them for daily carry and heavy shooting (I’m an RSO at a huge outdoor range complex) for a little over a year now – – – it seems that the first generation of Defender optics had major issues with 14 hours before shut-off and low refresh rates. Their current versions have proven most reliable. (I also have Sig Romeo and have used Holosun & EOTech in the past.)

Great video, now we need top five budget pistol optics cause most people are shooting on a budget. Holosun, Osight, vortex, Gideon, etc

Chris, interesting to see the SRO on top! What dot size do you prefer on the SRO? For say your volquartsen scorpion setup for target vs a duty gun setup?

Opinions are like A-oles……everybody has one. I like this guys videos. He's straight and to the point. But I just don't think ya gotta spend 500+ to get a great optic. The Sig romeo 5 is a great intro RDS. So we can leave that one alone. But the rest…over priced for not much more. I think the $300-350 is the sweet spot price point where you get the most bang for your buck. The Holosun 507 comp is unbeatable at that level. . Don't see how you justify spending more. Just my humble opnion of course. 😊

Thx for this list. I agree that reliability & durability matter most. If your sight will serve you well for 10+ years, then the price paid all but disappears. I’m no math wiz, but $70/year is well worth it if it delivers. Buying twice can get even more expensive.

I have the same issue with osight he has with vortex – battery connection issues in the middle of a range session, clearly due to inability to deal with inability to deal with the g forces. Osights gforce rating is way, way lower than Holosun.

You should try out the Zero Hawk EM1 enclosed optic ($160) and the OM1 open emitter ($140). They are aluminum housing and lifetime warranty. Would like to hear your thoughts on them.

Funny holosun is getting better ratings than all.of these more.exspensive ones sigs are not thay good from what i read thesr are all rich people dots i have a holosun eps carry on my pistol and it works just as good if not better than some of these

I'm not going to be running 1/10th of the rds through my guns as he does so reliability of pretty much every >$150 optic will be good for my use case. I'm partial to Swamp Fox.

How much off is that rifle red dot with an almost 3" mount? I have a big fat head as well but do not go over 2.5", 1" or shortly over seems best but can understand the comfort.

I wish I would of watched this before buying my red dot today. Staccato XC and at least I went with your top choice, the Trijicon SRO but might of went with RMR HD or Sig Romeo

Good to just change all your optic batteries every year in 4th of July or New Year’s Day.

Make sure you have a quality gun and an 8 shot Smith and Wesson 327pc is a great self defense gun with defensive 357 corbon ammo. No failure to feed and no shooting yourself in the balls while reholstering. Plenty of capacity for real world. Semi auto pistols are superior when everything works and you carry them on you everywhere every day. Red dots make that a pain in the butt. I’ve got unlimited budget and I carry revolvers
