  1. I thought it was common knowledge that the most suggested place by manufacturers is over the ejection port. At the end of the day however it’s where it’s most comfortable for you with that balance of getting quick acquisition and ergonomics.

  2. Center of gravity needs to be as close the the rear of the rifle as possible for better balance, so with my magnifier and buis, i have no spaces in-between them. Far back as everything will fit.

  3. "We get a lot of questions about placement of a red dot on a rifle ." The answer is red dot goes all the way off the rifle and use a holographic instead 😂 j/k.
. Either way mount so the base is on the front rail of the upper without crossing the gap. Never bridge your optics . Yeah there is always someone " who's done it forever and their scope is fine" . Don't do it . If you want something that far forward ,you have a few options. A purpose built rail mount like the arms swan sleeve or pri mk12 top rail. They are actually designed to marry the upper to the handguard but the top rails need to line up . cantilever mounts are another. Scope risers that clamp to the upper and have a forward area that floats out over the handguard, they are available in different heights. Also they are available as one piece direct mounts for aimpoint and that same size tube .

  4. Using a reputable optic. Eye relief shouldnt matter. Some like an MRO or holosuns 530 series produce some magnification but ive had no problem using it rear or forward of receiever. I actually have a few rifles with 2 being near charging handle and 3x uppers all the wat forward. I dont use magnifiers. The 2x rearward ones have 2-2.6 optical height with eotrch qd risers with dbal and an otal attached to it. Think of it as a hydramount with being only half as tall. Maybe not even half😂 . those rifles dont have FF rails so deflection is greater. My bcm has my otal mounted in center of handguard. Everything has QD mounts so i can swap to acogs or lpvo when i want to. All are labeled so i know which optics go where.

Btw if yoir shooting with both eyes open.. It doesnt matter how far forward or back it is. Try it. Youll be surprised you can run it on the handguard near the muzzle. If you can find the dot your gtg. Dont listen to backyard guardians / home security/ weekend warriors on what is correct. Its full of crap. Do what works for you and what you feel is right.

  5. Whatever works for your eyes and your brain is going to be whatever is best. I prefer having mine as close as possible, it just works better for me; I’ve noticed that I’m a lot quicker and more accurate that way. I’d also like to point out that optimal placement can also change depending on firearm; for example, if you try to mount a sight over the ejection port of a Vepr-12, that’s definitely going to lead to the gun jamming because the sight will catch the ejected shell and keep it from clearing the ejection port. For a Saiga-12 or AR-15, however, this isn’t a problem.

  6. There is literally a line on the upper that shows you where to mount it. Lol.

However you can mount it anywhere but don’t start on the rail bs. If it “doesn’t hold zero,” then why do front sights go all the way forward, lasers go on rails, and all that hua?
