  1. Please correct me if I'm wrong…
Longer projectile prefer the tighter twist, such as 1:7.
Shorter barrels prefer the tighter twist.
A great "do it all" AR-15: 16" bbl with 1:8 twist. Will handle 55~77gr projectiles.

  2. This is a subject that doesn’t matter.. 99.9999% of the time.. Gun/barrel quality is so all over the place, you just can’t tell the difference. Speaking from experience, my mileage. I’ve got an Armalite with a 1:9 that shoots 75’s as well or better then some of my 1-7’s and several 1-7 that shoots 50/55 much better than the 1:9… 1:7,8,9… πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  3. I shoot a lot of 62 grain green dots because I had bought a lot years ago at bulk . my 16 inch BCM I believe is a seven twist .
That being said I do shoot 75 100 yards pretty much when I actually try bullet on top of bullet . Just saying, I think a lot has to do with them for sure.

  4. Yall are my fav firearm channel. I honestly thought you were buddy when I first started watching a few months ago. it just turns out you could be his twin. You even sound like em lol

  5. All else being equal 1/7 is the best overall.

Although I have no complaints about 1/8 or even 1/9

Using 55 gr M193, 62 gr M855 & AAC 77gr OTM out to 300yds, in general, in my experience the closer you are to a 1/7 Twist, 20” barrel, Rifle length gas system the better off you will be in terms of reliability, accuracy and reduced recoil. Eugene Stoner got it right the first time.

Of course barrel quality and ammunition quality affect performance as well.

  6. Why do people use phrases like β€œheavier grained projectile”? Do you also say an M1 Garand is heavier pounds than an AR-15? I try not to be nit picky about these things, I don’t even care if people say clip instead of magazine, but this kills me!!!!

  7. There is almost no reason to go with the slower twists. A 1:7 will shoot the short, light, bullets just fine. Mine will hammer with 52 grain bullets. They don’t β€œover stabilize” or blow up. The faster twist allows you to shoot all bullet weights well. Also, it’s not really weight of the bullet that matters, it’s length. So if you move to a non-lead bullet (say for hunting or frangible) you need a faster twist to stabilize a given weight, and you’ll want the heavier non-lead bullets for better ballistics. Keep it simple, keep it safe, keep it 1:7!

  8. I replaced the 14.5 1:7 in my BCM with a 13.9 1:8 criterion core. It seems to consistently hold a half moa or better with 62-77 grain over the BCM at 100 yards with the rifle under magnification and bench rested.

NO BCM is not bad I have several. No need to defend your purchase decisions/masculinity with pedantic douche-baggery!

  9. I was ready to let these fingers blast off if they said the wrong info. Rather impressed. Barrel length, twist rate, tuning, it all matters when you're after peak ammunition performance. Act accordingly.

  10. It's not so much the weight of the bullet, but the length of it. Heavier tends to be longer, but "non-toxic" hunting rounds made from things like copper tend to be longer for the weight as it is less dense of a material than lead. So a 1/7 might be perfect for a 55gr copper hunting round.
