In this Product Review I try out a very popular product from CMMG which allows you to shoot .22lr through a standard AR-15. This makes target practice and plinking a lot more affordable to the typical AR owner. Does it work? Is it reliable? Is it easy to swap in? Well, this video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this device. Yours may vary.

  1. Ive had one of these for many years. I cant say its perfect but it rarely malfunctions. Its mostly an ammo thing. I never run golden bullets. Expermenting with better ammo helps. I like to run the kit in an sbr. Its a hoot!!

  2. Nice invention but that's about it… need to buy extra parts if you want accuracy and reliability. There is a plug that goes into the buffer and I think there is something that covers the gas tube as well. Gotta agree with you, it's better to just get a dedicated upper or a rifle like the HK416.

  3. I love CMMG, they make some of the nicest AR's money can buy. But there's no such thing as a consistently reliable semi-auto 22LR gun, from any company. Whether it's "ammo fussy" or "complete train wreck" or something in between, all 22LR auto loaders are doomed to being imperfect guns.
That pink AR is timely, jump on that Barbie bandwagon! Get some of those Barbie clicks πŸ˜‚

  4. Thank you for the review. This kit is in my cart at Brownells, seems it's priced around $170. I don't want all the magazine hassles. So, I take it you prefer the HK41622lr over the S&W M&P 15- 22?

  5. Jason, I don't own the CMMG conversion kit but I do have a few dedicated .22 AR rifles (H&K 416 .22, Hammerli , Tippmann .22). The HK, Hammerli, and the Beretta ARX 160 all use the same .22 mags which are excellent in quality and reliability. The Tippmann runs flawlessly. I have to say that a dedicated .22lr upper I bought from Palmetto State Armory that runs with an actual AR15 lower truly feels like the real deal in weight and controls. Barrel has a 1:16 twist rate. All metal and very accurate. Works great with Black Dog Machine mags. And , best of all, you can use use your AR -lower with your favorite trigger(TriggerTech). I think it uses a slightly different CMMG bcg since it has a barrel chambered for .22lr.

  6. Good morning, Jason, great to see you have a 22rf conversion. We have them for nearly all our pistols. Being that ammo is so expensive. I do like the Aggressive Salmon colour of the rifle. But I am perplexed that you would a magazine assist to load 22rf ammo. I bet you use one for Glock mags. Down here in Oz, Dorothy loads all our mags, and never uses a loading device.😁
