In this Range Report I review an older version of the Sig M400 AR_15 pistol. These are budget or entry level AR’s offered by Sig Sauer. They come in a lot of variations with many options. I feel these are a great value for your money and worth taking a look at if you are looking for your first AR.

Check out my 2nd channel where I make candid and less professional content in a more relaxed setting where we can talk about everything firearms, upcoming projects and I can post behind-the-scenes videos!

  1. I literally have the exact same model of SIG M400. I bought it new back in late 2008. Yes, that is the exact, stock configuration of the gun when it was new aside from the muzzle device. That is the SIG quad rail. The good: That's the SIG 516 lower receiver. It's top tier. They used a lightweight AR-15 enhanced bolt carrier group. My gas rings decided to fail around 1,000 rounds. SIG also uses a standard carbine buffer with that which is idiotic. The gun isn't overgassed or anything but with an 11 1/2" barrel, the internals are going to take a beating and it recoils more harshly than it should.

Another upside, is that barrel has a SOCOM like profile and its extremely accurate. Mine has gone through a number of changes over the years, such as changing the rail, gas block, buffer weight, BCG, etc. What I've decided to do is simply convert it to a SIG 516 by getting one of the upper receivers. I'm going to Form-1 the gun and go for the 10.5" version of the upper.
