I Did Something Stupid When Building My AR-15 | Backwards Hammer Spring
If you built your own AR-15 go double check your Hammer spring and make sure it’s correct. I shot about 1200 rounds through mine before I had any issues. Live and learn! Be sure to smack that “Like” button before you go! Thanks for watching!

  1. One leg is shorter than the other on the hammer spring? The Spring that came with my Echo sport trigger had the exact same length legs and I've had nothing but trouble with this trigger, light primer strikes all day can hardly get 5 rounds off.

  2. Also so many people are conceited jerks when it comes to guns… I’d watch your stuff over theirs any day. Thanks for the honesty. Keep making the vids man!

  3. I finally figured out my problem to with my AR! Same thing, went thru plenty of mags until one day it started acting up at the range. Did some inspecting and boom, hammer spring was on backwards, thankfully I didn’t have the 2 round burst happen to me. But glad you shared this video!

  4. The burst-fire most likely happened due to the polishing of the trigger. I’be done it before on a mil-spec and a Larue trigger before when I polished the disconnector/disconnector sear and it became too slick and wouldn’t fully engage anymore. I’ve known a few guys who’ve done it on purpose to try and mimic full-auto 😂

  5. Hey man, I really appreciate you posting this video. I got a gun from a guy in a swap along with some ammo and had multiple light hammer strikes when I took it to the range. Thought maybe it was just bad ammo, but had the same issue with a new batch. Asked some guys I was with of they had any idea and they said maybe a trigger spring was installed wrong. Came to YouTube and your video confirmed that for me! Much appreciated!!

  6. Careful, you just admitted to possession of a machine gun. The legal definition is the firing of more than one round with a single activation of the trigger.

Obviously, that was not your intent, but you can run afoul of the ATF. DO NOT use a firearm that does that, aside from the fact that an out of battery detonation can have catastrophic results.

  7. I just bought some green tip and got frequent light primer strikes. Never had an issue with light strikes with any other round. Sure enough my spring is backwards. I hope it fixes my issue. Thanks for this post. It will help more than myself

  8. Its simply a sign for weak hammer springs. A lot of guys, who "tune" their triggers install weak hammer springs, a big mistake. Polishing and grinding down a trigger mechanism often leads to "full auto".

  9. Oh yeah, nice to see you teaching a young man about the Bill of Rights by using them. With you as a role model he should be an honest man, who won't be afraid to man up, if he makes mistakes. We learn from our mistakes, not by hiding them like our politicians do. Take care.

  10. Just bought a new outta the box AR had no problems for the first few hundred rounds then BOOOOOM!!!!! full auto and 2-3 round bursts. I appreciate the info and I’ll check mine out.

  11. Wow I'm going to check this out I just did a build and I have the same problem it fires two rounds sometimes I don't know if I put spring in backwards but I'm going to check but I think I might have messed up the trigger because I polished the disconnect and all the points that touch and I think I might have made it to the point where it doesn't grab all the time I don't know but thanks for the video

  12. Stumbled across this today and I have to say, you can get full auto for strange reasons. When I was a kid my dad had a 22lr that worked fine, until it was used enough to get dirty (it was dirty anyway). So, after shooting a 100 rounds or so, you would sometimes get double shots instead of single. Once cleaned it would go for a while again then sure enough it would would fire again. This rifle would sometimes give you some powder in the face when you fired. My theory is that the bolt spring is weak so that it opens sooner than it should, allowing gasses to enter the bolt area and make it dirty. Who knows.

  13. damn dude i remember watching this a long time time. was having issues with my pcc build on a standard lower. turns outs yep backwards hammer spring. i was looking at my other builds was asking how come they never had walking pins, sure enough backwards hammer spring. double fire. its fixed now. woot~!

  14. Good on you making a video on it. I guarantee you someone out there just figured out what’s wrong with their rifle thanks to you explaining it and putting out the info.

  15. finished building my lower and got my fully assembled upper in last week. (Yes this is my first build) Just got home from the range. I had a lot of ammo that didn't go off. So I got frustrated here it was operator error. And this was the problem. You are my hero dude thank you! Great video!
