When i was in the military I was taught it was a carry handle, maybe not everyday on the battlefield, but you'll use it when you store arms

They told us not to carry it like that in Basic, but my 20" is a bulky boi

Its true, for some reason sergeants would scream and train at soldiers to not carry their rifles by the carry handle. I dont know what the rationale is but its true. Obviously we still do carry it by the handle where its convenient but never as the main way
