He’s not from the government, but he is here to help! Brownells new product team leader Paul Levy shows us the AR-15 Government Barrel Assemblies from “The Mothership of Goodness,” Brownells itself. These barrels match the current profile used on M4 carbines, and they are made for us by the same contractor who supplies similar barrels to the U.S. government.

These barrels come in a variety of lengths: 10.3″, 11.5″, 14.7″, and of course 16″. They are all 5.56 NATO chambered, with a chrome-lined bore and chamber. ALL of them are Magnetic Particle Inspected (MPI) and proof-fired with a high-pressure load to weed out any with hidden flaws in the steel. This is the same rigorous quality control the barrels built for the government receive, so you can be sure you’re getting a sound barrel that will give you decades of reliable service, depending on how much you shoot it.

Why the 14.7″ length instead of the official 14.5″ M4 carbine length? The extra 2/10″ enable you to simply pin-and-weld on a standard A2 “bird cage” flash suppressor to achieve the legally required 16″ minimum total barrel length. There is also a 14.7″ SOCOM-profile version available.

Brownells Government AR-15 barrels come as a complete assembly with the Delta ring, handguard front cap, rivetted sling swivel, front sight tower / gas block, and the front sight post all installed. The carbine barrels have the proper cutout in the front cap for the M203 Grenade Launcher. All barrels have a uniform, deep-black, phosphate finish and very crisp, clean engraving.

SNEAK PREVIEW: Paul shows us the Government Profile A2 rifle barrel that is on the way. This will be the perfect barrel for an M16A2 or M16A4 “tribute” Retro Rifle build!

  1. Unrelated request for a future video. What is recommended for removal of "blast rings" on a stainless revolver cylinder face? Also what should you NOT use for the same as well as elsewhere on the weapon? I already know that Hoppes #9 cases nickle plating damage, but I am more interested about stainless cleaning.

  2. I live near FT Bragg so the tactical/ gun stores are everywhere. One shop that I frequent that is approved to do military upgrades has all kinds of barrels on display and I asked " why would I want a $350 barrel over a $150 barrel"? The man simply said do you see yourself putting 25,000-30,000 rounds down range over the next few years?"..I said thank you for simplifying what the internet refuses to do.

  3. Brownells…can you guys please please please make a BCG with Nights sand cutter, HMB bolt with LMT style bolt lugs and lobster extractor, a POF roller cam pin installed. With a HMB cut gas key where there is a ledge milled in for the mateing of the gas key…AND offer a barrel that can have a similar gas block retention system like on a Q , Barret, or knights. And then make a A5 buffer system that has the POF lip to cradle the bcg… Ultimately making the greatest parts ever! πŸ‘πŸ€ βš”οΈπŸ»

  4. I don't understand the barrels coming put together. Dont you need to take the barrel nut and sight off to install your gas tube? Is there some trick that Im missing? When I bought a A2 front sight barrel, i had to remove the barrel nut and all that stuff and the front sight in order to tighten it on a upper, then i installed my gas tube in the front sight gas block… put it back on the barrel, then installed a Midwest free float 2 piece handguard. If there is a trick, please let a brother know…πŸ‘πŸ€ πŸ»

  5. Why do we keep cutting perfectly good barrel blanks to fit a bullshit standard that doesn't serve a purpose on modern rifles and actually detracts from handling and barrel accuracy? Booooo
