I've seen Gen 1 SW 15-22 uppers being used on gen 2 SW 15-22 lowers and vise versa. The SW 15-22 lowers will not accept standard AR 15 uppers; but the different SW 15-22 lowers and uppers are compatible with each other.
I own one, and you can absolutely replace the stock if you want to. I put a magpul moe carbine stock on mine and it’s fantastic
There s a seller on ebay that offers a custom ergonomic grip that fits the both the new and older version of this rifle which completely transforms the feel of this rifle. I bought one and loved it immediately so I bought another for my wife's 15-22. He offers them in Black and FDE.

How can you say it's the best long gun ever if it's the first you've ever owned?
Its easy to remove the stock, just pull down all the way and pull off.
The "key" is your front sight adjustment tool and the "other thing" looks to be an empty chamber flag.

The upper & lower is Not interchangeable with the it's real counterpart the actual AR-15-556/223. most everything on the 15-22 however can be replaced upgraded or manipulated in one way or another. visit (Tacticool22.com) for parts such as the proprietory (barrel nut ) for adding a FF Rail etc etc… Good luck
Just bought this rifle and love the thumb assist which makes loading the magazines infinitely easier than others. First day at the range I fired 200 rounds without a single FTF. And with a red dot, the groupings are tight at 25 yards, which is the maximum distance where I shoot. Thank you S&W for such a nice weapon.

only with the M&P it can be used but Bushmaster has AR-15 22 the lower can be used with and regular AR and it's a great gun only cost 369

Love my 15-22… buffer tube is blocked so it's not interchangeable…. unless you do some milling which is not legal depending where u are and voids warranty. grip, collapsible stock and trigger group is mil spec so u can swap those out.. charging handle can be swapped since the have sturdier after market one available or buy a mil spec one and mill it to the 1522 specs. careful with the pistol grip because it has two tension springs so don't lose them… happy shooting bro 2nd gen is more reliable than first gen and cleaning is a breeze compare to a Ruger 1022
