Why the AR-15 is a Civilian Firearm and NOT a Weapon of War or an Assault Rifle

Semi-automatic firearms, including modern sporting rifles like the AR-15, account for approximately 70% of all firearms, and yet — in an attempt to single out the AR-15 — we keep hearing the same rhetoric from anti-gun politicians, celebrities and the media elite. “Weapons of war” is their new catchphrase. Fact is, the AR-15 is a semi-automatic civilian rifle and NOT a “Weapon of War”. Arm yourself with the facts. #AR15 #ModernSportingRifle #MSR #NSSF

  1. As a none American I just wish to get context to the reasons why it is, that weapons like semi automatics are classed as a good weapon to own. Surely your founding fathers were looking at flintlocks. Would they have said the same thing if they new that there would be weapons that could shoot children in a school at the rate an automatic can inflict death. I mean running into a school with a flintlock is not going to cause the casualties of modern weaponry. There are other factors, training and what is it intended purpose. Example is police use them to protect and serve. A tool for the job they undertake. Soldiers and armed security. I live in a country where we do not have guns. Hunting shotguns, farmers and gun enthusiast can gain a license. Walking down the street in a gang saying you are protecting your right to bare arms is like looking for a gas leak with an acetylene torch. Things can go south mega fast. Switzerland has everyone with a gun at home in defence of their country. I know I am ignorant on this subject I just do not understand why you need to parade with weapons of such magnitude. Range shooting I can get my head behind. Hunting I can understand but to have a gun surely it is best to have a reason. Heck self protection at home is something I can get behind. However armed men dressed in military looking attire is not for self protection. Having said all this, it is your right. So I guess it is up to each individual. Always be civil to others, debates and points of view are just that. Democracy demands people have different ideas and ideals. The people chose through a vote which course they prefer. stay safe be honest and look out for everyone.

  2. FAKE NEWS.. SORRY GUN LOVERS
AR-15 ARE DESIGNED AND BUILT TO KILL PEOPLE FOR THE VIETNAM WAR, SORRY FOR THE DISAPPOINTMENT. Before the Bush administration, there were NO AR15 for hunting or sport, they were released for civilians after the gulf war to help small arms business in US. Before 1990 anyone that used a AR15 in the woods was seen as a psico escaped from a jail or mental institution. You don't need AR15 with 30 or 50 o100 rounds mags to hunt or plink, bolt action rifles are enough for hunting or plinking.. a revolver or shotgun is enough to defend your home, the first shot is the one that counts… don't get fooled by gunwackos or gun manufacturers. AR15 are responsable for mass shootings massacres… hunting weapons will never have that firing power…

  3. Look… I'm a gun owner and gun rights supporter but let's be honest, the AR-15 platform was designed specifically for military use, therefore its clearly a weapon of war. To say otherwise is stupid and an incredibly weak argument.

  4. This is a disingenuous argument.

The AR-15 is not considered a “weapon of war” because it’s semi-automatic. The true combat version of this weapon (M-16) is capable of fully automatic firing.

In truth, the AR-15 is considered a “weapon of war” due to two key factors: 1) it’s semi-automatic mode is extremely rapid — allowing a shooter to fire off an entire 30 round magazine in 5 seconds (vs 2 seconds at fully automatic). The gun was designed to have a fast semi-auto ability because the military trains soldiers to use the semi-automatic mode as the default combat mode. During engagement, firing semi-automatic is much more efficient and produces more accurate results. So the semi-automatic mode doesn’t make this a “civilian” weapon by default. Semi-auto is the designer’s and the military’s preferred and recommended firing mode. But far more important is 2) the AR-15 is a high velocity weapon. Meaning that not only is it much more accurate over long-distances, its impact on the human body is devastating. The muzzle velocity makes all the difference in the world. The AR-15 was designed with the original combat specifications as the M-16 and as such needed to be a light, but powerful weapon. That’s why it fires a relatively small caliber round at very high velocity (3,200fps).

The high velocity of an AR-15 is what makes it truly a “weapon of war.” Because at these velocities, the AR-15 will blow out entire organs, often leaving massive cavities where human tissue once occupied.

A “weapon of war” is a gun designed to kill as efficiently as possible from a distance, is lite, and can fire accurately in rapid succession. The AR-15, like the M-16, is designed to make survivability from being shot with it as unlikely as possible.

So it is the combination of rapid, accurate semi-auto firing plus the extreme damage inflicted by high velocity rounds that makes the AR-15 and its family of similar guns a “weapon of war.” If one seeks any further verification one only need look at the literature that Colt and other manufacturers routinely supply about these rifles — in declaring proudly as a selling point how closely or even exactly their specifications match those of their military models.

  5. May not be a "Weapon of War" but they do make up 70% of all guns currently being sold in the US and are the most frequently used in mass shooting – the gun of choice by Active Shooters across America!
These semi-automatic rifles can accommodate high-capacity magazines. That allows the shooter to fire off dozens of rounds in a short period of time, a skilled shooter can squeeze off 2-3 rounds per second. A Sig Sauer and an AR-15 magazine generally holds 20- 30 rounds. There are magazines that can hold more. After the Insurrection at the US Capital on 1/6/21, more than 2 million guns were sold in January, an 80% jump and the third-highest monthly total in recorded history. The deadliest mass shootings in recent history have had one thing in common: the perpetrator used an assault rifle. These weapons possess an incredible amount of killing power, and amplify the destructive will of the person who carries out an attack. For example, nine people died and 27 were injured in a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio on 8/4/2019, in an attack that lasted 32 seconds. The killer used an AR-15 style assault rifle and managed to fire off a minimum of 36 rounds in 32 seconds. Where else would you require such fire power if it's not a "Weapon of War", a shopping mall, a McDonald's, a school, a church, or at a daycare center. Or do you need the fire-power advantage a semi-automatic riffle provides to take down a very allusive deer that you have already lured into your sights using deer urine and deer food but still require 30 rounds to be a successful hunter.

  6. In what non extreme scenario does anyone need anything more than a pistol or shotgun for self defense? What are you gonna do with a AR other than waste bullets and cause stray bullets that could possibly harm bystanders?

  7. Gun grabbers want to take away your ARs first, then your pistols and any weapons

    Don't give them ideas lmao
And never settle for their "we don't want to ban all guns" talk, if you give a hand, soon they will demand your whole arm

  8. I am actually hoping for some help here from some gun experts. To cut the story short, I am looking for people to watch the below video to tell if a real gun was fired? Police said it was flash or bang grenades.

  9. No don't play to their game. It's passive aggressive game they do, don't get suckered into it. Yes they are weapons of war, meant to protect this great republic against tyranny, especially communism. That is why we have the 2nd amendment.

    Are you a communist?
