This is by no means a professional review of the Bushmaster Carbon 15. This is my personal likes and dislikes and hopefully just some food for thoughts for people that may be looking in to the carbon 15 platform.
I love feedback.

  1. NEVER, EVER buy a Bushmaster Carbon 15… As they are pieces of junk and the company does not honor their warranty if you are the 2nd owner. Furthermore, their limited warranty is only good “within one year and ten days from the date of first purchase by customer”. So it’s possible for one to buy a NIB Bushmaster from a FFL dealer (the first purchaser) that was made 13 months earlier, and it will already be out of warranty. Their guns are very fragile, susceptible to breaking, and CANNOT be repaired! If someone offers to sell you a Bushmaster, simply smile & laugh, tell them good luck, and move on down the road. No more plastic or carbon fiber guns for me…. I’m staying with Heavy Metal.

Need proof? Here’s a link to one of the owner’s manual that details their Limited One Year Warranty (typos included).

  2. Picked one up about a month ago…511.00 out the door. Came with a quad rail installed. Still haven't shot it yet. I'm bouncing back and forth on optics. Dont know if I wanna go 1.5×4.5 optic or a red dot with magnifier.

  3. I only paid $599 at Dicks. Which is weird cause Dicks is usually a rip off.
Mine has functioned fine with American Eagle ammo, but it didnt like that Aluminum cased Wolf ammo.

I hike a-lot in Black Bear and Cougar territory, but nobodys been attacked in over 75 years, so I typically only carry a .22 pistol to save weight and I look at it as more of a 'noise maker' than a defense weapon. I've only seen two Cougars/Bears and they all took off in the opposite direction before I even had a chance to draw, much less fire a warning shot. A Ranger also told me that there is no record of anyone being killed by a mother black bear defending her cubs, Thats more of a Grizzly thing.
I'm more worried about Badgers cause I'm constantly stumbling across their burrows..

But Im going to start carrying My C15 just because I want to get more comfortable shooting/walking with it. Any suggestions on shorter barrels and a proper (non-battery operated) scope? Im not going to spend more than $300 on a scope and would prefer something variable that can go down to 1x and deal with point blank shooting. Thanks

  4. I loved it, but I had to have the upper warranty replaced and now it's out to get the lower replaced because the grip started to come off while firing, stripped grip screw on its own:( so under a year with around only 400rnds and the upper & lower have crapped out. bushmaster is fixing it and standing by the warranty, but should never have those issues within the first year.

  5. Paid $700 for mine on sale at Cabelas and then added new rail, sights, and butt. I have other AR's that cost much more, but don't perform as well. Whatever issues people had with cracking or durability must have been ironed out prior to my purchase, because I have had only positive experiences with this weapon. I would add that the costs of modification have been very moderate, because I've purchased used parts on eBay, Craig's List, and other venues. I never pay retail.

  6. I bought my Carbon 15 at Walmart for $300 last month. The trigger on mine is lighter than on my Colt and DPMS guns. The upper and lower receiver locks up tightly, unlike my DPMS gun. This is my favorite AR.

  7. I'm unlikely to buy another AR off the shelf.  You can put together a fantastic rifle off of Palmetto for under $700, good enough to compete with some of the real heavy hitters out there in the industry, not made of plastic and will have the features you want as you built it yourself.  If buying an AR off the shelf, be sure you are happy with it, because upgrading makes a cheap rifle an expensive one.  Refer to Tactical_SHT's stop buying AR-15s video.

  8. Idiots on the forums that hAve never shot the rifle love to rag on this gun. Bought mine new for 550 out the door sep 14'. I've put 1200 rounds with no malfunction whatsoever. Mind you I only put reloads through it. Very accurate and easy to shoot. The red dot that comes with it sucks for hitting anything over 25yards. I suggest everyone who owns this gun to remove the top rail and epoxy it on as it's gets loose. Helps to hold zero

  9. Bought 1-for the wife due to weight issues.  It shoots great, and has been very reliable.  I've heard complaints about cracking usually after someone drops their rifle.  Here's a hint, they shouldn't drop their weapons.  Just a thought.

  10. I had this same rifle, I ended up selling it, it just did not feel right for me. After the A.R craze died down I traded my old Marlin 22 magnum for a Bushmaster XM-15 lower. Also purchased a mid length upper kit from DTI for $490. So all in all I am gonna have a better gun built for less then I paid for my original Carbon15.

  11. Dude you wasted your money. That is the worst possible AR you can buy. Hope it lasts a while before it cracks. Ever wonder why that's the only AR you could find during the panic? They can't give those pieces of shit away.
    $860, you can get a Colt M4 for $900!

  12. I am picking up my first AR 15 next week for $730 (Bushmaster XM 15 O.R.C. 5.56 NATO/.223). I used to own an N-PAP AK47 then sold it 'cause it is hard to find the parts and expansive (still a good damn rifle).
I know the owner and the staffs at my local gun store. I asked them to let me fire the rifle before I can get my hands on it. It's really nice and smooth, and I can upgrade most of the parts of AR 15 w/o bringing to the gunsmith.
Bushmaster is a well-known brand for AR 15 and I'm really pleased with rifle

  13. I have this same AR and I love it. I have well over 1000 rounds through it without a single problem. I did some similar modifications too. I put the UTG PRO Quad rail on and a Magpul CTR stock. I also put the Magpul MBUIS flip up backup sights on since they can be used straight through the red dot that comes with the rifle. I also Duracoated mine in WWII Olive Drab and did some foliage camo effects, it looks awesome! Hopefully people will quit bashing this rifle. It is quality and reliable.
Thanks for the great review. Happy shooting!
