A Great Light/LASER Combo For Your Handgun.

I wanted a light and LASER combo for my home defense gun. OpticsPlanet.com sent me a Streamlight TLR-4. I’ve been playing with it at various ranges for a couple of weeks. In this video, I give you my honest opinion about it.

  1. Good video. But I have a comment on lasers. The distance between barrel and the laser light, the greater the distance the more range limited the laser is due to angle. Lasers I choose, I want them above the light and close to center bore. Due a quick study and you'll see why. The other is, I want to choose when the laser or light is activated as if you can use your sights, the laser becomes a distraction esp. if you have a red front post or illuminating post. I use mine in very low light and esp when I can not sight. A tactics course is best. I set my laser for 30 feet on my center post. At the range verified the target from 15 feet to 50 feet. I still got mass hits, but closer were high and further out from 30 feet it was low, but all still mass hits. I would avoid head shots, HA! JUST KIDDING . I recommend all to do this drill while at (indoor) range.

  2. Regarding your comment about automatic activation when drawing the pistol, certain models of TLR lights have the option of installing a contour switch. The contour switch basically goes under the trigger guard on the grip and automatically turns on the light/laser upon gripping the pistol. A quick google search for TLR contour switch will provide more information.

  3. others have already mentioned this kinda, so i'm tagging on i suppose. the tlr 1 and tlr 2 (2 is laser/light, 1 is light only) have a remote switch option that would activate via a pressure pad just under the trigger guard under your middle finger. before you buy more of these tlr 4s you might wanna look into those other options. and they do make them with a green laser, which of course is more expensive, but easier to see in daylight.

  4. Just a little FYI: Streamlight offers a momentary pressure switch that you can install that runs along the triggerguard all the way to the grip that you can squeeze under your middle finger. Of course, it depends on the model, but it replaces that paddle on the light. Did it for my G23. BTW: Really enjoy the videos, keep up the excellent work.

  5. This laser/light is perfect addition for a home defense weapon. Just spend some time getting familiar with it. I have a Streamlight in my primary pistol that's by by bed. It will give me quick and accurate identification of any threat. My Streamlight is the more expensive TLR-2 HL G. The laser is green and the light is 800 lumens, with a strobe setting. An 800 lumen light is a blinding weapon by it's self. Just shine one in your eyes and see how much it slows you down. (Of course, don't have it on the gun when you shine it in your face). Does the TLR-4 have a strobe setting?

  6. I carry an M&P9C with a CrimsonTrace Laser Grip. While it doesn't have a light, as soon as I get a grip on my pistol the laser is on. I don't really need to think much about it. The one thing with this unit is with my finger safely on the slide, it blocks the laser. I have trained myself to either hold my finger just off the slide or if I know I need to shoot then as my finger lowers into the trigger guard then the laser is unblocked. One though also in using a gun mounted light… Remember your barrel is pointing where the light is and that might be a good guy or innocent. Consider if searching your house etc that you keep the guy more or less at low ready. The light should be bright enough to help id a person. In this case a separate light maybe a better solution. Pros and Cons to either solution. Keep the videos coming.

  7. You mentioned you have a pistol for home defense, my question is do you have a suggestion on what kind of ammo to use like any frangible ammo that will not go through dry wall if you miss? i know you should do a lot of training to make sure you don't miss but i would really like to try to minimize the chance of a bullet going through my walls. I would like to get some of the ammo the the air marshals use if that is legally possible.

  8. Is it just me? It seems that gun folks are the friendliest people around even in a state like CA. More guns = More happy people. If you agree thumbs up this comment. Thanks

  9. I use this exact light/laser on my Glock 19 when I set it up for HD at night. It's important to not only hand tighten the mount screw but to also use the specified mount for the gun, as it comes with several different mounts. Also the side switches are set up so that you use momentary only when navigating from cover etc. Once you're shooting I'd push the switch down until it stats and it definitely holds up very well under recoil, provided it's mounted correctly. Great choice and great video!!!

  10. @theGunGuyTV, if I move into Cali. with my guns that are not on California's approved roster, will that be a problem or since I'm moving to Los Angeles it's ok to bring my off roster guns in?
