In a message timed for tonight’s Oscars, the National Rifle Association is rolling out its biggest gun to call on the country to focus on teaching children their Constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment, instead of tearing those rights down in a drive to socialism.

Featuring historical footage from the late Charlton Heston, the former NRA president and two-time Academy Award winner, the new video from the pro-gun group juxtaposes his words on American rights with the anti-gun messages and images from Hollywood, Washington, and media critics.

After reading the Second Amendment, Heston, who died in 2008, is shown saying, “Politicians legislate against it, media ridicule it, movies pervert it.”

Throughout the NRATV video he frets about the attacks on American rights by elitists and warns that the next generation could lose them.

As he speaks, the video flashes images and words from Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Kimmel, Joy Behar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Spike Lee, Amy Schumer, David Hogg, Kendrick Lamar, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Robert De Niro, Kathy Griffin, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and CNN’s Jim Acosta.

Explained the NRA, “these people threaten the Second Amendment and the very freedoms America is built upon, so it is up to those who revere those sacred freedoms to teach the next generation why they are so important.”

Heston said it this way in the video:

If you consider yourself a freedom‑loving patriot, you can’t shirk your duty to teach America’s young to understand the Second Amendment. To revere it, to embrace it, to defend it, and in their turn, to bequeath it.

That’s what we have to do. We, the teachers, the neighbors, the clergy, the uncles, the grocers, the legislators, the scout masters, the parents, the Americans. Only then can we pass the torch with that sacred flame that lights the American way.
