My first attempt at a light weight build & I couldn’t be happier. The complete rifle comes out under 4 pounds. Factory rifles at this weight cost no less than $3,000.
The build only cost me ~$1,200! Not bad considering I still used quality parts from @SamsonMFGPRO @FaxonFirearmsOfficial Jag Composites, Smoke Composites & others.
Some of the options are the lightest parts available but there are still some parts that are heavy.
Since posting, I have already changed out some parts to further reduce weight. Is it the lightest in the world now? No, but I’ll keep trying to get there.

INGENIOUS! I’m wanting to build something lightweight for my girl. We share this gun hobby together. She’s 73 now and for obvious reasons, she doesn’t enjoy shooting AR’s as much as she used to because they’ve become too heavy for her. I’m guessing something similar to what you’ve done will be our next build. Thanks for sharing
Nice build
NICE !!
No polymer, no lithium, no magnesium and under 3lbs with 16" barrel is nuts lol. MY KIND of nuts, BAD TI gas block at 0.48oz and 80 bucks, then all youd need is a polymer lower very cheap(3.7) MicroAhole brake very cheap(0.7oz) and Hogue 15* grip trimmed which is cheap(1.2oz) and dsa aluminum sandcut bolt (lightest ever made at 5.2oz) luth ar charging handle is 0.7oz which again is cheap as well and that would get you there at 3lbs. Just built mine for under 1300 with red dot and mag at under 3.4lbs and that's with a 3.7oz lower, and some parts you can't even get anymore! Budget that high is about all I care to spend on a supralight.
Hey what brand BCG was that? The lightest aluminum one I could find was 5.9 oz and yours is 4 oz.
do you happen to have a parts list written out for this build?
Very curious what kind of accuracy you are seeing at 100 yards?
1st Hueman ur Voice sounds soft?
Almost 4lbs but very cool.
Nice build man. Thats crazy light, i just finished a 6ish pound AR10 used a Smoked Composite hand guard and Roam upper and lower. Great companies BTW.
3 pounds 14ounces is crazy light.
Badass
not prof of concept if it doesn't work, seeing is believing.
Impressive, just for the practice of doing so and testing the limits of different materials.
Outstanding!
You didn't leave any bread crumbs for me to follow. Lol
Good work. Post the testing video.
4lbs. Add sights or an optic
2 years later, I hope you have a CF grip to go with the stock and handguard. This is a beautiful range toy
Nice build! I'm really wanting to try to build one under 3 lbs. It's been a challenge finding parts but I think I might have found everything.
A light gun need's a light trigger like a Geissele trigger well done though.
How much did that rifle cost all total
I'm curious how it shoots- I'm sure it's controllable but I wonder how violent the firing cycle/dot bounce is in hand. Awesome build.
The VP09 is a great addition very under rated piece.
Just got my 7.62 done didn't realize I bought a lite santan lower. Today I received my Odin works upper receiver with no forward assist and it fit perfect. Just have to swap the barrel now.
This build is almost identical to my last lightweight build. But I used a different trigger. Good job dude👌
How did this end up shooting? I’m dipping my toes into the lightweight world and am at 5lbs 4oz. I’m trying to keep everything super reliable though. Next up is the CF handguard and buttstock. Anyway, I’m super interested in a range report.
Good job very practical for trying to build something in a budget but very light well done sir
Yo bro
Such a cool project bro!
im looking into magnesium alloys for the upper and lower
I know this is a little late but I just saw your video but try a springco (increased power) buffer spring instead of an adjustable gas block , awesome build. Great job on the reduced weight build.
Cool video and build.
I have a JAG composites 10.5" tube on my "Space Needle" V7 AR. Mine has a forward assist and fixed gas so it's a bit heavier, but it's about as light as I consider a combat ready AR to be.
There are videos of it on my channel.
What’s the company that makes the handguards
Bro that s nice.
How’s it shoot ?
What’s the cost of your build ?
that's impressive for sure, but what is the weight with your optic?
That is a great build. I started on a similar build but going 300blk and compact with some of the lightest parts you can find. I started with 2A Armament Balios Lite Gen 2 receivers. It came in at 12.3 oz vs over a pound for most receiver sets. The barrel is 7 inch custom profile from Mos-Tek. They could have done a pencil profile and saved me an ounce or 2 but I couldn't have the taper and target crown I wanted. It came in at 12.9 ounces vs 1lb for a the lightweight profile or the honey badger barrel from Q. I am running the SLR Sentry 7 Titanium adj gas block. Yes it's less than an ounce. I am running the Brigand Arms 6 inch Hoplite carbon fiber handguard and barrel nut, comes in less than 3oz and the Brigand Arms Carbon Black handguard, right at 1oz. I went with the Rise Armament RA-535 trigger pack. It may not be the lightest but it's lighter than milspec and i love these triggers. I spent money on Vseven lightweight lower parts. Yes it's a couple hundred dollars to shave 2 oz. Originally I was going to run a Smoke Composites stock or a pistol tube but decided I wanted more compact. If I would have gone ultra low mass bcg, buffer and carbon tube, I would have been at 2.5 pounds. I thought about adding a folder to make it compact but that adds 10oz or so. I decided to try the Evolution Weapon Systems Buffer-less BCG (still waiting on this part, but would put the bolt and buffer system all inside the upper receiver. This setup would put me right at 3lbs and with a A3 Tactical folding brace adapter and steady brace along with a Primary Arms SLx 1 X Micro Prism (heavier than a Red dot but it has an etched reticle to you don't have to rely on batteries) it sits at 4 lbs 3oz. Folded its 17 inches long. Unfolded it's sits at 26 inches. It really comes down to how much you want to spend because in some cases you can spend $100 and $200 just to shave an ounce on one part. Do that over an entire rifle and you can spend a $1,000 or more. I have $2k in this and still thinking about changing some things up because I actually want to use it and train with it.
Nice build!! We manufacture the lightest AR15's in the world since 2017, and just finished our gen 3 rifle prototype , but have not shown it publicly yet. You got the most bang for your buck for sure, it's difficult to get under $2k/4lbs and come out with a dependable gun. You made smart choices to save weight, but not at the expense of functionality. In our experience, those titanium muzzle devices make some crazy sparks!!
The Aluminum carriers can last a very long time if you keep it oiled. Rubber city, DSA, and whiskey arms are the ones we've tried.
That's a pressma charging handle
the poly kit is what I speak of, should have clarified that on the first post
