In this product review I check out and try the Bootleg Inc. Four Position Adjustable Bolt Carrier. This is a BCG designed to tune your gas system from the bolt instead of the gas block. It is quite an ingenious design. I am impressed that someone thought out of the box with it. So did it work? Well, here are my thoughts and experiences.

  2. It depends on your gas port also.
It has the other 2 settings to tune your suppressor because some are flow-thru and some are not. Some are more gassy that others.

Run it unsuppressed or use the other 3 settings to tune to your suppressor.

That’s why they make 4 positions.

  3. The other settings on the BCG is dependent on your gas port as well. The gas port on a 12" carbine gas system should be anywhere between .071-.073 in order to run reliably with a normal BCG.

  4. Soooo…it ran exactlyyy like a normal, non adjustable BCG lol

I like the idea of this too, in theory, but unsuppressed I can lower my Rifle Speed adj gas block a few clicks to tune my rifle, w this apparently I couldn't…so that's weak.

BUT…BUT….I have an 18" SPR (not at all clone MK12-ish build) w the AEM suppressor (which is an over the bore suppressor) so by NOT having an adj gas block, and using the BCG instead is a huge upside (bc THAT suppressor has a collar that interferes with my adj gas block)

Long story shor….this COULD be cool, if u need it

  5. Just an FYI if you buy this and it doesn't fit (like mine doesn't) Bootleg will never respond to your request for assistance. It goes to a cell phone, straight to voicemail and you have the option to text them. They will never respond. I have tried for over 2 months, as has the store I bought it from, they do not respond to anyone. So it's a 200 dollar paperweight.

  6. I noticed on your first five shots unsuppressed on your sbr you were ejected at 4:00, so you already had your sbr gassed properly. Therefore you would not get any benefit using it unsuppressed, but definitely effective when suppressed.
Although, I suspect you knew your sbr was dialed in. These Bootleg bcg’s are great for DD’s, Giessele’s, LMT’s, LWRC’s, knights and the like. Generally, all the companies that deliberately over-gas their AR’s to ensure reliability for their clients/customers.
Good job on the video, nice work!
Your SBR shoots like my 13.9”, so I suspect you may have a Criterion barrel in it. Whereas as they’re tuned to work with minimal gas unsuppressed or suppressed. Or some company similar to Criterion’s tuning method.

  7. I'm just here to say I love mine. I have 7k rounds without problems. It says "4 position" but honestly I've always found I can adjust it inbetween the four fixed settings. Does it's job well

  8. I think it might work on slowing down the cycling rate if it's too high without having to change the buffer weight 🤔 ,I in the past put a heavier buffer weight in my AR to slow down the cycling of mine so that I can shoot the steel case

  9. I had one and I sent it back. It is a great concept, but with a huge flaw. The unsuppressed setting should be like a regular BCG so that you can use it in any AR. And the setting 1 should start bleeding off some gas. I ran it on my stupid over gassed Noveske barrel and it would run on unsuppressed setting and not on any other setting. It would not cycle in any of my Criterion barrels that are well gassed.

  10. I don't know much about how suppressors work with regards to the gas settings. But, is it possible those middle settings didn't work because of your specific AR? Could if have to do with the barrel length you are using. Maybe on a shorter barrel those extra settings would allow it to cycle?

  11. All that means is your gas system is pretty dialed in just cuz all the settings didn't work on your are AR doesn't mean it won't work on another one with a gas system that isn't as dialed in is yours.

  12. It looks like an awesome product.
I wish you would have kept track of and shown the ejection pattern on each setting while suppressed. What direction it's throwing the brass while suppressed is the information missing from this video. But there's enough information to show that it works..
Also I would like to know if the adjustable parts of the gas key are replaceable. I know the screws on adjustable gas blocks can wear with use and need replacement.

  13. Good morning, Jason, I love a good bootleg video. But I was a bit surprised it wasn't about illegal whiskey, and thanks for mentioning my grips for my 1911. But you forgot that they are in Oz with Dorothy and Toto, Cheers
