Range Report: CMMG Mk4 Dissent (.300 Blackout) – A compact AR-15 style pistol

In this Range Report I take a look at and review a CMMG Dissent pistol chambered .300 Blackout. This is a very compact AR-15 style firearm that is designed for CQB and personal defense. Mechanically this guns borrows from the AR-15 and Sig MCX with a buffer-less recoil operation but a direct impingement gas system. Like many other CMMGs, this seems to be high quality and very accurate. This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences with this gun. Yours may vary.

  2. Update on this gun:
Jayson found a missing c-clip on one of the bolt carrier guide rods. It seems that was causing some alignment issues with the bolt since the tension was not balanced between the two guide rods.
After replacing the bolt carrier rods with ones that had the clip, the gun is now feeding reliably.
I also had issue with burrs from the factory before it was provided to Jayson.
I have heard of other quality control issues with CMMG. It is a wonderful gun, but I think they have some room to improve.

Jayson, thanks for the review and for finding that problem. My faith in this guns reliability is back after some sour feelings toward it.

  3. I wish you would’ve tried taking one round out of the magazine to see if it still would not go into battery. It very well could be the magazine, not the gun. That would’ve been the first thing I checked.

  4. I don’t think you’re giving the gun a chance to be accurate when you rested it on the magazine. Plus taking your time between shots would help also. I have one of these guns and I promise you it’s a hell of a lot more accurate than what you’re showing.

  5. Finally, I’ve been waiting for more reviews on this gun, that’s where you start to see the imperfections of the platform. But I will say, I haven’t had any issues with it not going into battery yet. Thanks for the review!

  6. I love the new looks of the CMMG offering. I was eyeballing the Resolute, and so close,I got my hand on the wallet, too. But, no forward assist is the reason I decided not to buy it. And now I see I made a very good decision. They should made the forward assist a option.

  7. Trying to keep my cool right now moms being transferred from hospital to nursing home today as we speak shes terrified and my aunt and sister decided to yell at her and make her cry the old me would have set them on fire but im really trying to be civil about this for my mother's sake

  8. Good morning, Jason, that ticks a lot of boxes for me. I love 300Blackout and that short little unit would look great with a drum mag, then on the front seat of my ute. The rabbits are getting really bad, so it would get a workout. Five Roo review 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘 Oops, I just realized that its super accurate as well, I hope you picked up the brass, I have one of my Dillons setup for 300Blackout, brilliant round. Cheers
