The Virginia House of Delegates on party lines passed a contentious AR-15 ban on Friday, with Fairfax County Democratic & veteran Dan Helmer leading the charge.
The bill, if enacted, would cease the sale and transfer of AR-15s manufactured after July 1, 2024, and also impose restrictions on magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
Helmer defended the measure, emphasizing its potential to prevent the sale of weapons what he called “similar” to those used by veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In reality, his “Similar” is not even close to the same.
While the proposed legislation would not impact AR-15s manufactured before July 1, it would impose a blanket ban on individuals under the age of 21 from owning, selling, or transferring AR-15s, regardless of manufacture date.
Republican Del. Nick Freitas expressed concern that the passing of this bill could lead to even more stringent restrictions in the future. “Ultimately, I don’t agree that this is going to save lives, and I also don’t agree that this is where it’s going to stop,” he cautioned.
The fate of the bill now rests in the hands of the Virginia Senate.
If approved by both chambers, the bill will then be presented to Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who highlighted Virginia’s existing gun laws as among the most stringent in the nation in a recent address.

To add to my previous comment. I believe that our government wants something to happen to impose MARTIAL LAW. Then they could just go door to door without any warrant to seize any firearm.

its funny when people are like im a vet and used a ar-15 in afghistan i just go ah i got it your never deployed or never saw a gun while in service cause we don't use ar-15s we use m-4 carbines and m-16a4s.
I am a veteran, and I can’t stand veterans who use that status to gain some kind of credibility that they don’t deserve. Most veterans have no idea what their oath means. Oh BTW my AR15 is way better than what the military is using.

He apparently didn’t get the memo to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. 2A doesn’t give a preference on weapons. In the 1920’s you could order a full automatic machine gun in a catalog. Well the tyrants didn’t like that so they created Unconstitutional laws to keep full automatics out of the hand of civilians going against the 2A rights.
