Yeah, it's not a fair evaluation to shoot I rifle with an optic, and the other without. And the mini 14 was substantially updated in 2005 with thicker barrel, optional rail attachment over the ejection port, tactical version with flash suppressor like the AR on a shorter ( stiffer ) barrel.
