Being comfortable in your shooting stance is critical to success. A good butt stock for your AR should achieve “gear transparency.” Also you want your AR15 to be lightweight (usually) and possessing adjustable ergos for you body armor or clothing layers. So here TD and I address first the BEST TNP AR buttstocks that we’ve used and loved.

Not every one will be covered, just a sampling of the ones you probably know about and maybe have yourself. The philosophy is interesting too

Use my links below if you want to support the show, ammo more expensive and rare for us than ever!

"Bismarck Thanks for validating my use of MFTs, I really like the QD cup placement and weight. 2w Harold Galen McPheron I love my STR stock… 2w Andrettski My 6 AR's all have different stocks on them, Colt Magpul MOE, Del-Ton B5, 4 Aero builds, 1 w/MFT…1 w/Strike Ind Viper…20" w/Magpul PRS G3, and my 10.5" pistol w/Strike Ind PDW. I really like them all but I think the MFT would get my overall win. 2w Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest I've put MFT on all my guns at this point except the truck gun that was a PSA build that has the MOE OD green stock. I care about weight. I'm too short and light weight to be lugging around a lot of weight. 2w Schmuckatelli Side note: I purchased that Citizen Eco-Drive watch (AW1158-05L) based on one of your previous WRVs (I think it was mentioned in a review for a different watch). I posted a picture of it in a watch group on Gab a couple of weeks ago. Love that watch. I ordered from Jomashop, but sadly it is out of stock. There are other retail outlets available online, but they are more expensive. https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-ar-watch-aw1158-05l.html 2w Kyle Soucy This video kinda made me want to go back and put the M4 style stocks on everything. 2w Tacticaldoodle They're actually pretty rad. There's this cheesy little cheekpiece that MFT makes if you wanna add a sopmod rest on them too, I only mention it because you can make a poseur M4gery for about 26 bucks with stock carbine furniture, a section of pic rail, and a grip. 2w Chance Tomlinson I use to run the MFT on my primary AR but I’ve recently fallen in love with the BCM gunfighter stock. Funny enough, I replaced a gunfighter stock with the MFT 5 years ago but now it’s back. I still have the MFT in a parts drawer along with a Magpul SL-K and some others. Side note: If anyone is looking to buy the BCM Gunfighter stock, Big Daddy Unlimited has good pricing on them. They also have good pricing on Vickers slings. 2w Tacticaldoodle I like the BCM, it's good. One that's surprised me is the daniel defense, actually. It's not the widest, but the thing is pretty bombproof too. If you're willing to go a little lenient on weight, I think it kinda comes down to what attachment you like most in slings. QD cups aren't totally ubiquitous, which seems to be why the magpul MOE is on the outs a bit. (Which, come to think of it, I'm a little surprised they haven't done a V2. Should be good for some coin.) 1 2w Load reply thomas goines 10000000% agree with the cloney comment 2w Scott Reichard Any time.. we are on the same team. Scott 2w James R Doodle the burnt bronze AR is sooo sick I love it 2 2w Lon N Awesome as always. Only commentary I can add is about SB Tactical's PDW brace. Heavy, but I wouldn't fear mortaring it retracted. I ended up with mine via a PSA sale on a complete pistol lower with the PDW brace for $20 over the gong price for the brace alone. I couldn't resist buying it for a 12" Grendel pistol. RE: The OP Vism plates. There is an error in your link code. Please get a new copy of the code from your account and replace the current code on your website. 2w Shadeslinger As far as braces goes, SBA3 is really great but if I’m going to pony up for a brace the Gearheadworks Tailhook is the best I’ve used. I have one on an AR, my Scorpion, and just put one on a Keltec CP33 👍 2w NatvMan I have the MFT on two guns. I just put a KP15 together so the stock and handle are all molded together. I like the MFT. Thanks for putting all this info in one vid. Keep up the good work Nutnfancy! 1 2w Tommy Forsyth Absolutely love the KP15, honestly it’s the only thing I plan on using for future builds, unless I’m doing AR10s 2w Racing Psychosis I still run the MFT or the cheap M4 Sliding Stock it just works. 2w Andrey Shlyakt I am glad I am not the only one who thinks the UBR looks rad. I had one on my SAPR until maybe a year ago when I got guilty of the weight and replaced it with an MOE. Still have it and may go back someday. I also happen to love the PDW style, I have a Maxim CQB brace on my pistol and it is awesome IMHO. 2w Tacticaldoodle I love that old troy PDW stock, as cheesy as the cheekweld is. There's something really cool about compact builds, y'know? 1 2w Load 3 replies David Threadgold I love the battery compartment Magpul but i am sure you hate the weight even though you linked it. I also scored 300 rounds of 9mm ammo at my great hardware store and it was around 45 cent a round. I was there three days in a row with no luck and was not even going this day but the owner was buying a milkshake and said they got a lot in. I know you need way more than me but a score is great 2w Tacticaldoodle I know someone who paid almost 70 cents a round for FMJ, bulk 9mm when he asked someone for a deal at the shop their kid works at. He didn't set a ceiling price, so she thought her employee discount would be great! But hey, at least he has it now! 2w David Threadgold Also 556 ammunition yay 2w Daniel P I have a dad-butt… does that count? 😉 2w David Threadgold That’s good 2w Joshua kinnunen I was actually disappointed there was as few butt jokes as we got. I’m firmly onboard with the magpul MOE stocks. Got them years ago and haven’t felt the need to change at all. 2w Zachary Plocek Core ar-15 content 👍🏻 Just in cases doodle cares the brownells fiber lite stock is only 4.1oz. 1 2w Tacticaldoodle Dang, gotta grab one of those. I've been hunting for old Colt ones, just for the wear on them. Surprised they got so rare so fast, once upon a time everyone had a bunch of them they wanted to pitch! 2w Ruben Lopez Hey Nutn! When are we having a Hood River meet up? 2w Charles Hirst Hey Nutn wanted to ask can you post or do a video for an emergency call to action on the ATF’s proposed rule change that seeks to redefine what is a firearm? 1 2w weston wilson No one is talking about the ATF, their proposed rule changes are abhorred! We need to get the word out! 2 2w Michael Rodman I have the ACS-L on my .308 battle rifle it’s a tad bit more weight, but I like cheek rest like TD was saying especially since the rifle is scoped. I do use the little compartment to keep the allen wrench for the Aero mount is a small zipped bag to keep it from rattling. 1 2w Bluegill097 Embedded watch review: Hell yeah 2w Onsenkage MFT Minimalist is super cool. Ever planning to do a dedicated review of JP Silent Captured Springs? Thinking I heard you mention that they were in testing in a legacy review of another black rifle. Could be wrong. The system is pretty slick but clearly more geared towards competition shooting > real world hard use. Seems like in extreme cases silt and grit in the buffer tube could induce malfunctions with the way the buffer weights travel over the captive guide rod and I wonder about the spring life. Most people outside precision tuning / competition circles looking to upgrade their buffer system would probably be better served with Geissele super 42 and saving a few bucks or just going with any good quality spring and buffer combo but I would like to hear your thoughts and data if you have any. 7d Tacticaldoodle I think that funky AR build we checked in 6.5 creed had it? It's a sweet setup, but I don't see it being bought unless we're doing another funky AR build. Pretty much all the JP stuff we've tried has been rad. I don't know if I'd just upgrade my buffer spring kit unless I had a real goal in mind, like tuning for particular loads, or recoil, short barrel operation, etc. I've heard just the normal, cheap springs are worth the low price, though I forget the brand at the moment. I kinda wish there was a "tuning kit" out there that you could get that included the whole H-spectrum of buffers, along with the array of springs, so any SBR build could be dialed in easier. 3d Load reply Onsenkage Nutn mentioned issues with exposed buffer tube in extreme cold as well but only in passing. Was that in reference to freezing metal in contact with fat face causing shooter discomfort as mentioned in MCX review or some kind of AR 15 reliability issue due to lack of insulation and cold stress on components? 7d Tacticaldoodle Comfort, I can't think of any buffer tube issues we've ever had in the cold. The only times I've ever seen buffer tuning be necessary is for SBR builds trying to dial in for crappy ammo. Factory-wise, they've all worked A-okay. 4d Load reply Harrison Nobles I'll take whatever butt stock is ready for me 6d Jorge I have been loving the Brownells car-15 retro stock, Great video guys."

  2. Also, no such thing as a case stuck such that a rod cant knock it out, but mortaring your rifle into scrap metal will. Not now, not ever. Sounds like something an air force "shooter" would say.

  3. Old video but I’ll still comment…

When we were down range in Afghanistan… some of the guys would rock either Magpul or Gucci brand buttstock just to stand out…

But most of the guys just kept the standard buttstock .
What I can speak to is it never gotten my way and it was very light. It did have some slop. But with engaging targets usually within 500 m it didn’t matter that much. plus with getting in and out of vehicles and in confined spaces it never got in the way and did what it was supposed to do.

What I use now is different. I prefer something with a better check weld and less slop.

But I would have no problem using the OG M4 buttstock .

  4. I love the Magpul SL stocks,,, my favorite! And yes, we have many calls to this day of people trying to get a hold of the Colt AR police trade ins. I keep bidding on them whenever they pop up. But we never win the bids on the PD auctions. Also for a fixed A2 stock Hogue makes a killer rubber overmould for under $40.

  5. I am a big fan of stocks with storage. I generally feel that any game-time gun needs storage in the stock since you are likely to fight with what you got either on your gun or on your person.

  6. Never had a problem with standard style M4 stocks besides some rattle and thats easily fixed by putting the felt half of some 3m velcro inside to take up the tiny gap between the stock and buffer tube.

  7. Dude sling tech is ridiculous. QD is for security guards. If you do real moving and work a double point is much more versatile. I just tie my sling with 550. And a stiffer webbing. Hiking, hunting, building camp.

  8. 11B trained to Scout in the Stan '06. Standard 6 pos never bothered me, did make getting in and out of the Humvee easier for sure. Never geeked out over weight, but we also had the thick AF quad rails. I was a SAW gunner and weapons squad dude, so the weight of the M4 was nut'n compared. I was 6'2 and 250 at 18% BF then, so I also had XXL IBA n plates so my kit was heavy AF anyways.

  9. A milspec Colt M4 stock with an MFT cheek rests w/dual battery compartments(empty) and an MFT Minimalist are MY 2 favorites that have survived years of abuse with a lot of “mortaring”!
The MFT cheek rest has a QD point on one side and a sling point on the other. So I removed the metal sling point and screw. So it almost evens out with weight.

  10. I used mostly timber creek for my AR build. But I went with a boring Magpul buttstock because it's just well made and functional. The sling attachments are great, the length of pull is good, it's quality is great. Not flashy or Gucci, but they work great.
