Eotech EXPS3-2 vs Aimpoint CompM5 For SHTF
Eotech and Aimpoint make some of the best SHTF quality optics in the world. But which of their premium offerings is the right choice for you?

I have been shooting with the Aimpoint CompM5 for over a year and the Eotech EXPS3-2 for a couple of months. Both of these optics have their benefits and compromises dependent on use case. Now that I have entered the world of night vision, those differences are even more apparent. In all honesty, either one of these optics would serve you well as they are tried, true and proven. But there are some considerations to make if you can only have one.

  1. Easy answer. Aimpoint. It all comes down to battery life and compatibility. Also, you don't have to contend with any auto-off feature. Field of view and light transmission are overstated points since you shoot with both eyes open. NV passive aiming is just a stupid hill to die on.

  2. Ive never owned an eotech. But i have 5 Aimpoints, one of them being a comp M5. I like the M5 because it takes a AAA battery. I have rechargeables that i can charge with a solar panel if need be.

  3. I have to vote for aimpoint with the battery life. Though honestly I’d prefer something with some magnification like an acog (also no batteries needed). Sure folks will say but what about night vision and I’ll just laugh and say that’s for the instagram operators. I’m sure nods are more popular than ever but I’m also sure that the majority of people don’t have them and I’m not really likely to encounter anyone who has it that doesn’t wear a uniform.

  4. From a prepping perspective i see the CR123 as a weak link. While things may have changed, the rechargeable RCR123 batteries are inconsistent and some equipment won't even run on them. That means you can only use regular batteries and once you run out its a paperweight. AAA batteries are fairly standard and reliable so you can most likely use rechargeable batteries. Though you should test it.

Of course most of the RDS units use button cell batteries that would have the same issues.

  5. battery life on eotech is its ONLY downfall. sucks because i have an astigmatism so i only use eotechs. but that wide window and how nice they are is why ill only use those. even with the battery life ill still always use an eotech/magnifier

  6. Love my EOTech and i personally don't see anything that justifies the price increase for the Aimpoint over my Romeo 4T. The SIG has been seeing use with SAS and Delta so it must be doing shit right. And despite what the internet commandos say, its assembled in the US using US parts, a Japanese circuit board/glass and S Korean emitter. It is NOT a chinese rebrand/parts kit. I'm very happy with it. One day I might get a T2 just to have one though.

  7. Never had an Aimpoint. I've had three Eotech Holosights on different rifles. They always work and you can always see the reticle in the brightest of daylight. One thing people don't mention is the light weight compared to an LPVO. If you're adding other kit to a carbine or shorter, holosights keep the weight down when adding a light, dball, etc.

  8. As goos as both those are, get good with shitty iron sights….. amount of times ivr forgotten my extra batteries is stupid….. shtf you're gonna be stupider than stupid
