  1. Later production Crosmans were reputed to be more accurate than the Sheridans, on average, This may have been more related to the selection of quality .177 and .22 pellets usable by the Crosmans than the capability of the rifles themselves. The .20 caliber Sheridan branded cylindrical pellets were usually the only pellet choice for the Sheridans.

Today, with internet marketing, available pellet choices abound. My Sheridans shoot great using the .20 caliber Crosman Premier and JSB Exact diablo pellets.

The Sheridans are timeless air rifles, like the Marlin 39 and John Browning designed firearms. Crosmans are good air rifles, but look steampunkish compared to the Sheridans.

The only drawbacks that I have found with Sheridans is that the pumping effort grows old fast while target shooting. This is not so bad when using three pump strokes. Pumping effort is less of a chore when hunting as few shots are taken.

The Sheridan bolt requires force to pull it back and cock, it can be sticky, even when freshly lubricated.

The Sheridan design does not lend itself well to scoping. I have two Sheridans with Beeman Short Scopes mounted using MAC-1 mounts. Very short air gun scopes are needed to get around pumping hand position interference, but are difficult to acquire. Beeman Short Scopes work but are only available used and are expensive. Even using short Beeman scopes, pumping is more difficult with a scope mounted. The best sight choice for Sheridans is probably the Williams peep sight. Overall, I appreciate needing nothing but pellets and the Sheridan rifle. No need for extra paraphernalia such as PCP charging tanks or CO2 cartridges.
