Shooting the select fire/ full auto version of the newest CMMG Mk4 in 4.6x30mm

The 4.6x30mm cartridge came to fame when it was specifically developed as the round used by the Heckler & Koch MP7. This small, flat shooting and high velocity round is perfect for what it was developed for… a PDW round that is mission specific. Used primarily by units within SOCOM here within the US, the round has seen little use within the civilian community until recently when CMMG came out with a new platform to use this cartridge… the Mk4. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one the week they came out, and this select fire version has been seen a welcome place within the inventory.

Smaller than the 5.7x28mm round I have showcased in the past with both the P90 and the AR57, the 4.6x30mm is extremely flat shooting and easy to control. In the video, you can see that it has essentially no muzzle rise, even when firing in full auto. The cartridge does everything it was intended to do, which is create a lightweight, low recoil, high velocity round leaving the muzzle at between 2000-2400 ft/sec depending on the round. Thankfully I have a few thousands rounds on hand of this exciting cartridge and I look forward to doing some more experiments with it and evaluating it agains the two 5.7x28mm full auto firearms that I have to see how they stack up against one another.

  1. I do prefer the 5.7 round based on statistics and a fair amount of research, but I can appreciate CMMG's idea to introduce the 4.6mm to the civilian market. By the way, are those MP7 magazines or CMMG's own proprietary mags?
