Aimpoint Duty Review; Astoundingly Mediocre (PRO vs Duty vs Eotech)

Aimpoint Duty, a completely fine optic; that is defined by what it doesn’t have, more so than any particular issues.
It’s a excellent optic. Likely surpassing the PRO in that niche.
But the lack of ambitions is sad, and the lack of any modern features really takes the wind out of the sale (heh) of this guy

  1. I cannot emphasis this enough. This is a good optic.
But it also lacks any ambition. And is entirely carried on "it's a smaller aimpoint pro, from aimpoint"
No auto off/on (which it needs), no reticle options, weird mount.. etc.
This thing was designed to check a box. Which is fine… I guess.

  2. I had one and thought it was a nice rds for the money… However the funky mounting height was really a deal breaker for me since I wanted it for a set up using a unity ftc magnifier mount and couldn't ever find a solution that would work without a lot of trial and error buying, trading, selling mounts and risers. I don't have the patience for that so I traded it and just went back to a Eotech for no mounting height guess work and some other benefits of the Eotech. If I didn't care about using a magnifier and wanted just a stand alone rds then I think this is a very solid option. But at the same time I would quite possibly still pick up a PRO on the used marketplace for $325-$350 and slap a SKD 1.93 riser on it. I'm still a huge fan of the PRO and think it has one of the best brightness control switches for all rds optics.

  3. Interesting to see. At first I thought maybe an eye on budget was Aimpoint feeling pressure from the new generation of red dots.

But this seems more like a PRO replacement in the lineup, so maybe all they we're feeling was pressure from was their own aging design.

Informative video as always, thank you.
