Is a Daniel Defense AR-15 Worth the Money? The DDM4 V7 Review

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves reviews the Daniel Defense DDM4 V7, including a mini torture-test of this premium AR-15. With an MSRP of $1,800 to $2,000, this review raises the question: Is this Daniel Defense AR-15 actually worth this amount of money? Really, is any super-premium $1,500 to $2,000 AR-15 such as options from Bravo Company, Noveske, LMT, and other top-tier manufacturers justified for the price they command? Are you just paying for a brand name, or are you getting something else? Those questions answered, plus a good old fashioned Office Space style beatdown, plus James in the shower. Yes, James in the shower. It’s business as usual on TFBTV.

  1. Hey James, great review. The steel QD sling swivel insert is designed to not tear out. Typical aluminum QD point can tear out after extended use. I particularly like Daniels defense QD sling swivel insert because it solves this problem in the most low profile/light way, without having steel permanently installed into the rail at varies points, going with the DD motto of lighter, better, stronger.

  2. My buddy has a DD m4 and it's super cool and definitely is a quality gun. However, my S&W M&P 15 Sport 2 performs equal to his DD. It doesn't look as good as his and is definitely more heavy and has a worse trigger than his but it's every bit as capable of hitting shots as his is. Is a DD M4 a better gun than mine? Yes. Is it easier to shoot? Yes. Does it do anything that my rifle doesn't do? Not really. The DD is hands down a better gun all around because it has better parts but both of them land the same shots. Plus we're talking $600 vs. $1800 to $2000. I just can't justify spending over $1200 more for a DD M4 that will group shots nearly the same as my S&W will. I think it's purely personal preference in the end.

  3. Anyone who thinks the weight of their rifle or kit doesn't matter obviously was never in the military. Even an 8 pound rifle will feel like the heaviest weight you've ever lifted after a long hump or sitting in a shooting position for a long period of time. I was jealous of dudes in the Army with their M4's while I was in the Marines and carried around an M16A2/A4.

  4. I do like the way all you people trying to justify spending your money all willy-nilly and saying your rifle is better at killing somebody than my little 6.4 lbs $750 Ruger. Woo hoo congratulations it cost you more $$$$$ to kill somebody than me.
PS by the way like I’ve always said any truck manufacturer getting beat up a truck for a 30 second commercial and make it look good.

  5. My problem with it is that if you know what you’re doing (or know someone who can build a rifle well) you can build your own rifle with that kind of money and have money left over for a quality optic.

  6. I will take my poverty ponies and homespun Frankensteins that run and use the extra on ammo and training.
Then when the shit hits the fan I will take a DD off a fallen comrade who didn't train but had a cool gun.
    😂🤣😂🤣

  7. I would love to see an extended shootout of similarly set up rifles at different price points over a shooting class weekend. (Like Thunder Ranch style) You could do a Poverty BCA, a mid-tier Aero, and a DD/Geissele/BCM/LMT Gucci/NATO death squad tier rifles. See if any of them are "Just as good" as the real deal.
