In this video I compare the Wheeler vice block clamp to another generic style of clamp and discuss why I prefer the Wheeler. These armorer vice clamps are necessary for doing any AR upper receiver work and will security hold your upper without damaging it.

Wheeler makes great tools!
Thanks! I just purchased this vise block and wanted to see what I was buying, you answered all of the questions I had about it and I got to see it in a vise. Thanks again!
Video didn't really show us how the wheeler piece looks like. I suspect the one I bought from opticsplanet was assembled wrong (the two pieces look the same)

I notice you had a little difficulty sliding the upper receiver insert into your reciever? I get the impression that this may be typical for the Wheeler kit?
I got mine, and the insert would only slide in as far as the charging handle drop in gap in the upper.
The support folks at Radical told me there is some variation from "MIL-SPEC" on this slot in the receiver.
I took a little manipulation with some oil on the insert to determine where it was binding, and some judicious sanding on the edge of that rail to get complete insertion. Did you have to do anything like that to yours?
Well done!
Great video!
Do you see any reason a drill press vise will not work?
The "outside" vice block alone is $17 (shipped) on Ebay. I just ordered this Wheeler product (includes inside support piece with gas tube alignment tool) off Sportsman's Guide for a little over $22 shipped, using my club discount and free shipping code of SH1097.
Good discussion/review. I saw this on Amazon first but did not know how to use it properly, which is where Amazon falls down on the job. They very often leave out very important information on some of the products they do sell, and the info. omitted is a deal breaker with me sometimes. You have 'educated' me in this and Amazon should thank you for this sale; I do.
hi there… just wondering, how is this item holding up?  no breaks, etc?
Thanks for the fast reply.
I just ordered this same block. It's not here yet but I just bought a vise that opens maybe 3 or 4 inches. Do you think it will fit?
the problem is in the US, nobody wants to pay for quality or somthing that works. They always want something cheap and are then mad because it doesn't do the job.
Yes, the bigger the better. The Wheeler block is only 3.5" across, so it should fit your vice perfectly.
Thanks. Mine are 3.5"- I am thinking "the bigger, the better". I am just centering the nut for handguard alignment, not a full barrel install- so maybe I can get by with what I have.
The ones you see in the video are 4.5". You can probably get by with something smaller as well if your using the wheeler block.
What is the width of the jaws on your vise? I am going to by a Wheeler block, but I am pretty sure I need a larger vise. Thanks for the demo.
Great product and fast shipment. Fit my AR perfectly and worked exactly as I hoped it would. Would definitely recommend.
here is the link to it in case anyone is interested: amzn.to17mk9jF
Wheeler has their Delta Vice Block. It mounts to your work bench and is adjustable (angle wise). But I do not believe they have the style that just clamps into your vice.
Is there also a lower vise block from wheeler?
Thanks for the video , you made a difficult choice very easy , this is the one for me .
Yes great idea for eliminating their "Special handling fee", then add $10.60 for shipping (their least expensive option). Your shipping fee could vary depending upon where you live.
Okay so you just add a $3.00 crush washer in and it's $25.49.
While on the surface it does seem like a good deal through Midway, after you factor in their "special handling fee for orders less than $25) and $10.60 for shipping, your at $36.09.
these vice blocks go for $22.49 at midwayusa .
Outstanding video! Well done. You've helped me decide on this as a new vice block. Thank you!
