  1. Chris , you mentioned the gas rings. You did not mention that the rings should be at least 120 degrees seated on each of the rings from each other. Have found out that if the split on the rings are lined up together that you may have a failure to extract or feed.

  2. Degreaser should only be used if it is completely removed prior to lubricating your rifle. For this reason, isopropyl alcohol or Alconox (compressed air helps here too) work well as a rinse agent.

A word on metal instruments: Never use an instrument that is harder than the material being cleaned. That SS dental pick may not scratch CrMo barrels but the Aluminum and coatings that protect against corrosion will suffer greatly. Solvents, patience and wood-handled cotton swabs are key.

  3. I understand the point he is making by checking the chamber two or three or four times but… If you can't trust yourself after checking it once I don't feel the weapon should even be in your hands.

  4. I'm completely unbiased. The only AK that I've seen that shot anywhere close to the groupings of a similar AR was one with a match barrel. A standard AK just doesn't cut it compared to most mil-spec AR's when it comes to grouping @ 100+ yards. Sure, it can take out a target, but the groupings aren't going to be as tight. That's all I was saying.

  5. Formula for accurate Ak:

A.) Buy the equivalent of your AR. For some reason, people act suprised when a Wasr doesnt touch their colt in accuracy.
B.) Have an unbiased view going into the shoot.

It wont pick the tick off an elephants ass at 1000 yards (I'm assuming that's what you use an AR for.), but you'll get a man-sized target at 250 without optics.

A wise man once said, AR's are more reliable and AK's are more accurate than people let on to.
