  1. I just ordered the Vantage over the Vantage II after viewing this comparison. I was actually disappointed in the lesser capability of the Vantage II, to cut through extreme darker more dense smoke conditions. The previous Vantage also seemed much tighter on the outer edges with a greater concentration of very white (bright) beam diffusion. I am sure they both have their positives when compared but decided on the Vantage since it is predominantly for the fire/smoke conditions.

  2. Great review. I like the comparisons you did to show that the beam though brighter was more spread out. That's what I'm looking for in a helmet light, for my sight and hopefully for the sight of the guy I'm looking at at night. Can't stand when I'm blinded or blind someone with a super focussed beam in my current helmet light. Think I'll get the vantage II for my helmet and the 180 for my pocket for that focussed beam if I need it.
If your ever in Athens Ga, come for a ride along with us! Not as busy as most FD in the US, but we would love to have you at our table and maybe on a few calls!

  3. I have the Vantage as well, not the 180, the middle version. My only complaint is the rotary switch, which can be difficult to operate whilst wearing structural firefighting gloves. I am overall happy with it. I'd offer another opinion or viewpoint on the set screw attachment vs thumbscrew. I think the setscrew style is likely more secure, meaning it is less likely to just "walk away" on you, as you would need the tool to remove it. Not that it is a functional limitation of the light, but more a security one. Shiny things sometimes attract the attention of sticky fingers. And great to hear that Streamlight did you right by sending the thumbscrew for you, makes me happy to support a company that listens to its customers.

  4. Hello Jonny, thanks for the review. Just wondering if it is still holding up have not heard many good things about it and people are having trouble with the bracket system. Some individuals having it loosen up and fall off over time.

  5. Great review. Thanks. I had noticed that the original Vantage has twice the candela rating as the Vantage II, while the Vantage II has twice the lumens rating of the Vantage I. This seemed significant, so I called Streamlight to ask about this. I got transferred around until I got someone who definitely knew what they were talking about. They told me that the higher lumens won’t be an asset in a smoke-filled environment, and it would cause more light to be reflected back at you. The higher candela rating would help cut through smoke. Seeing the narrow beam of the Vantage vs the wider beam of the Vantage II in your video seems to further reinforce this difference for me. If I were to get something for extrication/USAR, I’d likely get the Vantage II. But for interior fire attack, it seems that the original Vantage is better than the new one.
