  1. Years ago when you could not get a complete AR15 because of demand I built one myself. Yes, I did everything, including assemble of the bcg and stakeing. It was a challenge at the time but I remember it with fondness. Now I have built several more and would not have it any other way, although I buy my bcg assembled, I know that I have the knowledge to do it all. There is a satisfaction in having a intimate knowledge of the gun you shoot.

  2. M16A1's had handguards and part of qualifying was shooting targets out to 400 meters , so either the Colt rifles that they had at Ft Benning where fabulous or you need to work on your long distance shooting , oh and that's with iron sights. There are 8 targets I belive at that distance out of the 40.Two in each position sitting, prone, knelling , & standing .Old school qual from the early 80's with A1 they changed the qualification with the A2 in the late 80's . Long distance shooting has more to do with the barrel than a handguard or free float , in the M16's they use a 20" 1:12 twist barrel then latter a 1:9 twist they stabilize 5.56 x45 NATO 55grn perfectly , it's just up to you to make it work. Yes I know I'm old and I've been playing with gun for far to long.

  3. I know a lot of guys who have their rifles outfitted like they're Navy Seals, but have never taken ANY formal (i.e. AR-specific, by a professional defense contractor or veteran, etc.) training, and only even plink at the range maybe once or twice a year (makes their rifles more 'ego' boosting objects than practical defense tools). Mine (Colt LE6920) might be pretty much 2013 stock config' except for the MagPul B.A.D. lever but, believe me, I am proficient with it (seizing every training opportunity). Your hardware only shoots as well as your training, and you have an obligation to shoot well if you carry a weapon that can potentially penetrate multiple barriers if you miss your target.

  4. Great job on the video. Very informative and helpful. I agree with 99% of your assessment. I think that plastic handguards can work for a novice shooter if they're fundamental marksmanship is solid. Upgrading to a quad rail or rail system should be a enhancement based on need or applicable application, I've taken many 500 and 600 meter shots using plastic handguards and iron sights with good acuracy.

  5. 704, you talk about radical's a lot. Would you rate them a little better than PSA? If I were to get a ar pistol fully complete….would radical be a great option? Also, what length is yours? 7.5 or 10.5? Thanks man! I understand if you don't want to rank the order on the manufacturers.

  6. I'm going to be buying a stripped lower and a parts kit from where I work (Since I get a discount) and building it should be fun since I have never done one before lol see detentes and springs flying in my future lol the upper I will be getting a barreled upper not so sure about all of that stuff yet. All goes well I will have a nice AR and will be building more of them for my family.

I am a newbie to the gun world just got my first pistol couple years ago and got a second one from work about 2 months ago and now i got my 72 year old mother hooked on guns after 1 trip to the range with me she wants a .38, 9mm and a AK lol.

  7. I just moved back to charlotte. currently saving for my upper. I took your advice on the psa lower. I pick it up in a few days. I'm curious as I'm not originally from here (Virginia Boy) is there any outdoor public ranges? as in I can just go shoot, I just had a kid and have little to no money for range fees.

  8. Well said for the guys that want to do one. My first used a Aero Precision lower with the PSA A2 mid length gas system 15 inch barrel and other pieces. PSA has great barrel combinations. Remember when doing one yourself from parts Safety first and take care of the fit and function. Test your trigger and safety on the bench and not on the range. And when you are ready to shoot, One round only in the Magazine for the first shot and cycle the bolt a few times after you drop the Magazine and dry fire and open up for inspection of the chamber. Then two rounds again and inspect again. After that you are good to go. Good video…
