AR Carry Handle Scope and .223 Reloads

I recently bought a cheap replica of the old Colt carry handle mounted scopes. Once it was finally zeroed in at 100 yards, it actually performed reasonably well (I only went out to 400 yards as I had no spotter). Let’s see how long it holds up – the fit and finish is rough and the quality seems a bit questionable. I also tried out my first batch of reloads in the .223 Remington caliber. The lighter 52 grain bullets grouped tighter at 100 yards, but the heavier 68 grainers performed better at longer distances. In a couple of months, I will be getting a new varmint upper with a 1:8 twist 24″ stainless bull barrel, and I’m hopeful that the accuracy will noticeably improve. A match grade trigger for the lower wouldn’t hurt, either.

  1. The grouping does not bad considering the ammo, not free-floated, etc… Where are you using Sierra Matchking? (I'd keep it Retro! Buy a matched upper and lower, build your own rifles…)

  2. I also rock a carry handle on my 20in and that's because I love it. Its also the way I learned how to shoot this weapon in boot camp and Im still able to hit everything at 500yrs with it as it. Ive also implemented RIBZ sighting.
Check this page out, https://everydaymarksman.wordpress.com/2014/08/06/using-a-ribz-sight-setting/ you'll be glad that you did. I now have a 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300, etc settings with just a click of my elevation knob. I can consistently shoot 1/4 – 1/2 in groups at 100 yards

  3. very nice, I am currently working on a Vietnam era AR build and would like on e of the Colt scopes for it but the cost is prohibitive, so I may I ask where you picked up this clone at.  I also would be interested in where to pick up one of the Japanese ones that are remakes if you know where they can be picked up.  Thanks

  4. It's a basic crosshair with a small circle surrounding the intersection of both lines. I'm not sure how many MOA the circle is, but it is similar to what other scopes with a "turkey" reticle look like. The eye relief is very comfortable, but since it sits so high getting a good cheek weld is a little difficult.
