    ** Here is where my confusion was. Do not ever "click" the button when you are tapping it, including the last "hold" on the 10th click. It seems, besides the occasional "I cannot count to 10 right" issue, this is the most common user error I was running into.

    If you are having trouble with Ten Tap Programming, make sure you are not clicking the button, even on the last hold. Hold without clicking until the light goes out.

    From the instructions for the Strion DS LED Light (2017 timeframe) :
    The Strion DS, Strion DS HPL and Strion DS HL feature a TEN-TAP® programmable switch allowing
    the user to select one of three different programs. To change to the next program, starting from the
    "Off" position, tap the momentary function of the switch rapidly 9 times (within 0.4 seconds per
    tap) and hold it down the 10th time. Continue holding the switch*** until the light turns off
    (approximately 1 second), then release the switch.
