In this video, I explain how to mount a red dot sight on an AR 15 in 3 EASY steps. If you’re new to AR 15s and optics you might be wondering how to mount a red dot on your rifle. I know I had a lot of questions about the process when I was a beginner. But you don’t need to be worried because it’s actually a really easy process. And even though this video is mainly about mounting on AR 15s, a lot of the information can be used for mounting optics on other types of rifles as well. So, to get started with the 3 steps… STEP 1 is to use threadlocker on the screws of your mount. A lot of mounts use screws to attach the optic to the top rail of the rifle. And its possible that, while you’re shooting, those screws could work their way loose. So what you need to do is simply add a drop of blue loctite to the threads of your screw. Doing this is going to keep the screw nice and snug once you tighten it down, and you won’t have to worry about your red dot working its way loose while you’re firing. STEP 2 is to place the optic on the forward end of your rifle’s top rail. If you’re wondering where to mount your red dot, there are really two reasons I like a forward mount for my red dot sights. Reason number one is I like having rail space behind my optic so I can mount things like back up iron sights or magnifiers if I want to extend my shooting distance. And reason number two is red dots don’t have eye relief. So I like to give my eye a little bit of extra space because it allows me to have better situational awareness of whatever’s going on around me. STEP 3 is to push your optic forward as you tighten it down. You see, your mount doesn’t fit perfectly in the slots of the Picatinny rail on your rifle. And you’ll find that you can easily wiggle the optic forward and back before you tighten it down. Here’s the deal, because of inertia the optic works its way forward when you fire your rifle. But if you push it forward as you tighten it down, you take that extra movement out of the equation and your sight will stay perfectly zeroed after you secure it to your rifle. So that’s it! Use blue loctite on your screws, mount your optic on the forward end of your rifle’s top rail, and push forward as you tighten it down. If you follow these 3 steps, your optic is going to mounted rock solid to your AR15!
