The Second Amendment needs Kavanaugh on Supreme Court

Gun rights advocates are stepping into the fight to push conservative federal appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh across the finish line and onto the U.S. Supreme Court where they expect him to break potential ties on liberal gun control efforts.

“The Second Amendment is at stake. America is at stake,” said the National Rifle Association’s top lobbyist Chris Cox.

“Confirm Judge Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice,” urged Tim Schmidt, founder and president of U.S. Concealed Carry Association. “With his solid Second Amendment record, Kavanaugh will be an important addition to the Supreme Court bench and those who deeply value our Constitutional liberties should make their voices heard in support of his nomination.”

While there appears to be no hurdle to Kavanaugh winning enough votes to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy in time for the Oct. 1 opening of the fall court session, there is also no guarantee that some on the fence may change their mind when the Senate Judiciary Committee considers the nomination vote next week.

As a result, Second Amendment rights groups are putting pressure on lawmakers to make up their mind and announce their intentions.

Schmidt, whose group trains and insures those with legal permits to carry handguns, is urging millions of gun owners to support Kavanaugh and tell their senators to vote for him.

“While those on the left did everything in their power to discredit him, Judge Kavanaugh was unwavering in his commitment to protecting the rights of responsibly armed citizens,” said Schmidt.

Many gun groups point to Kavanaugh’s support for the Heller case which struck down Washington, D.C.’s handgun ban.

Schmidt told Secrets, “I think the best prediction of future action is what people have done in the past and if you look at Kavanaugh’s past he’s been a pretty strong support of the Second Amendment.”
