With the help of reliable barrels and good pistol braces 7.5″ AR-15s are getting more and more popular. In this video I go over some of the reasons why an AR this small could be a good tool to add to your daily carry setup.

  1. 5.56 is effective because at 2500+ FPS it expands and often fragments/tumbles. It’s leaving your 7” barrel at 2175 so none of that happens despite what you say. You’re doing the equivalent of carrying FMJ RN in a carry 9. I don’t want to be shot with it but there are better choices. Gain 4in in your barrel and you’re consistently good. Why not? If you must have 7” then go 300 Black.

  2. I used to ignore this channel because his name is too close to another utuber I watch and I figured he was trying to imitate that. I tuned in because the subject was important to me. I was wrong about this guy. I am not an expert, but I know a fair amount about AR’s – my favorite platform. He knows what he is talking about. Good presentation. Subscribed.

  3. 5.56 relies on fragmentation to do its damage. Fragmentation relies on velocity. XM193 and M855 will NOT reach fragmentation velocity out of a 7.5" bbl, and will only fragment out to 25yds out of a 10.5" bbl. There is specialty ammo available, like 77gr low velocity fragmenting rounds, but they're expensive…. A 7.5" bbl AR in 5.56 is basically a high velocity .22….. 7.62×39 is a much better round out of a 7.5" bbl..

  4. What advantage is this over a pistol caliber AR pistol other than the blinding muzzle flash and concussive report? lol
I couldn't imagine shooting a 7" 223/5.56 AR indoors, it would cause the shooter to become disoriented.
As Far as penetration versus a pistol caliber, I'd have to see the actual gel test data, but no way this is going to penetrate
a ballistic vest with the lowered velocity and stabilization, on par with a 22 mag maybe, and that won't penetrate a vest.
Personally I think a 9mm or 40 cal AR pistol would be a better choice if you're range standard is 50 yds. or less.
I have shot one of these short AR 15's in 223/556, it's just too much noise and flash to be practical.
One thing I will say, if you don't hit the assailant you will surely defan and blind them, and probably yourself without
    protective gear..

  5. i threw a magnified optic on my 7.5 and was getting hits out to 400 yards on 12 inch steel no problem. probably not effective as can be at that distance but def can lay down cover fire at that distance and bail.

  6. I would be careful if you concealed carry it. If it measures over 26 inches with everything fully extended it is no longer a pistol but only a firearm. While it is fine to conceal a pistol(if you qualify under state law) concealing any firearm that is not a pistol makes it an AOW which is an NFA weapon and illegal without proper paperwork.

  7. Nicely done. I have a similar setup. Of all my "toys," this is my favorite to shoot. Reliable, hard-hitting, and easy to transport in a fix. I might add that one should ALWAYS wear hearing protection when firing this particular weapon. I fired my initial shots off my front porch (I live on a farm). The decibel level felt like my eardrums were punched with an icepick. I am a combat vet and never fired any small arms weapons that were as loud. When I first fired it at the range, I noticed that other shooters stopped and stared at me after I emptied my mag. Certainly the loudest bang on the range. I have numerous ARs and AKs but this one is my lap gun. Makes a perfect "Alamo" weapon.

  8. I don’t know about 25 yards I’m hitting 12 inch. Still consistently at 100 yards I will agree with you on self-defense distances . But I think your selling the 7 1/2 inch short . I was to before I built mine . & got some good rang time in with it . I’ve got a Cryhavac Break down barrel on it and it’ holds zero every time with the same folding stock you have . It fits in a 10 inch x 7 bag

  9. I'm a bigger fan of the 10.5" but I have a 7.5" and I like it. As far as pistol armour that'll blow right through it. I've killed alot of wild hogs with my 7.5" it worked as good as any other 223. It's not a super round from any barrel length but it'll get the job done. The cool thing about the 7.5" is it's a flamethrower, flash bang and gun all rolled into one. I think I'll sub. 👍🇺🇸
