You’ve seen the countless videos dealing with the subject of AR15 barrel mounting, which feature a bewildering array of expensive tools that you are told are required. Put down your credit card and watch this first. I demonstrate this simple process in this video, using very few specialized tools, together with some very simple common sense that get the job done correctly, swiftly, at minimal expense, and with no bewilderment.

I absolutely love the way you cut through the BS and your the first person i've seen on the internet use anti seize on the barrel nut! As a retired mechanic I used allot of it but especially when you had a combination of a steel and aluminium like an stainless bolt into an aluminum threaded hole. I learned that lesson the hard way! Thank You for these wonderful teaching videos, I refer to them constantly.
Very very interesting Sir I like to learn to take them apart and put them back together
Hello, I have seen your video on reloading. What do you think about the Hornady LnL reloading press? You have the Lee progressive press. I am in a dilemma on which one to buy. Thanks for your great instructions.
sir I have enjoyed your content for some time & have just subscribed , re your fondness of the .257 robert's I to have a love for "all round cartridge" I enjoy the .257 roberts over & 20 gage under , combination rifle & shotgun . kind regards from new zealand
The A2 flash hider isn't bad and it does work somewhat as a muzzle brake. The best muzzle brake out available is put out by Jerry Miculek. My barrels don't move at all. It's rather amazing and dirt cheap. I think I paid $35 direct from Jerry for the last one I bought. Be warned. It will blow out your eardrums if you don't wear ear protection. I can attest from personal experience.
Eugene Stoner was more a genius than John Moses.
I've watched every one of your videos. You're killing me on this one. The D ring is horrible as is the stock forearm and the combo front sight / gas block. The AR's greatest asset is its modularity. Honestly, I've never bought an AR. I have a box of lowers I went through the hassle of the NFA to get. I build mine from parts from all over. Parts for my AR-10 from 8 different suppliers. It's a great shooter and has functioned flawlessly. P.S. I just use high temperature grease instead of anti seize. $3 for a big tube at NAPA.
Great video GunBlue490.Very well done and thank you for the video.Slim.
Thanks for another great video. I think I'll now give this a try without worrying about buying ALL of the suggested tools as seen in other videos.
It's Friday night Aug. 24th and I'm wondering how Bennie is?
Thank for another wonderful and very educational video. No nonsense, and just what you need…awesome. God bless
Thank you so much, Gunblue490! I am building my first AR right now, and it's wonderful to have instructions from the source I trust the most.
Is it necessary, or even recommended, to use a new bolt after installing a replacement barrel? Even if the old bolt headspaces correctly with the new barrel? My concern is that the old bolt is "married" up to the old barrel extension, and using it in a new barrel may result in other tolerance issues when the bolt locks/unlocks. Just looking to stay safe, and obviously keep my rifle as accurate as possible.
As a side note, your method for lubing cases really saved me a lot of time and hassle. So I thank you for that!
Thanks for the knowledge
Truly my best to you Sir, your wife and Benny!
You are a New England Treasure for all of us who want to learn something.
Good one young man! Simple and to the point. God bless.
last time I used mineral spirits to clean a gun it took the bluing off like that was what it was designed to do!
How is Benny doing? By the way this video brings back a lot of memories from when I went thru the Colt factory armors school thirty plus years ago. Makes me ant to build another upper! These are excellent videos.
I didnt grease the threads for the buffer tube on an AR I put together. Should I go back and do that?
Great vid. Most barrels nowadays don't have the cut/hole for the pinned a-post that's required to complete the installation you've just shown. On the last few dozen ar's iv'e built not one of them had the required cut, this is something the smith/diy has to do on his own to complete the task. While it may be "simple" I can't help but wonder how many people will be thinking, WTF, while trying to insert a pin where it can't be done without the cut/hole in the barrel.
You know I bought a Colt AR-15 A4 shortly after I saw your first video with this one, but I have chosen to leave it all original. I like it more than my other non-Colt ARs, and it shoots tighter groups. I have never taken the upper receiver apart on an AR, but now I have excellent instruction on the procedure, and I won't need to spend a fortune on tools.
God Bless You too Sir.
Great video back to the basics. I never used a torque wrench in the Army. Like we say in the Army KISS.
Keep

Simple

Great video.
i'd like to be the first one here to stand up and state that i love my delta ring tool device. i have Magpul MOE hand guards. not sure if my delta ring spring is overly sprung or i'm just a sissy. but with my rubber tubing covered polymer $9 tool thingy i get my rifle clean without swearing. i don't really have a proper work area. i use my desk. excuses excuses excuses…. i got more where these came from too.

antiseize. lug nuts on the car. it's amazing what that stuff does.
maybe someday i'll get to build out an AR piece by piece. good idea to seat the barrel like that too.
good video. good explanations / stepped process.
When installing a new barrel on an upper, would you have to check and adjust head space with the BCG you were going to use?
Kiss rule in it's finest
Thoughts on lapping the receiver to square it up, before inserting barrel?
I think we share more than one thing in common, especially that little hammer, most versatile tool. Glad to see old shool, the best common sense. GOD BLESS !
Great information! Excellent presentation and I always look forward to your videos!
Thank you for the video sir! You are one of the few people on YouTube, who shows you don't have to spend a fortune to do gun stuff!
I usually put the antiseize on the barrel nut just to keep it from getting on the upper receiver but you have to be careful when sliding over the barrel.
Thank you sir. I have a go-to notebook specifically labeled "GunBlue490." It is filling fast…. I know you do these for the love of the sport and fellow man. That aside, if you created a Patreon account, I would be honored to contribute a few dollars a month to the "gun funds" or "beer funds" or "offering plate" without any expectations or commitment on your behalf. You give us so much and I would like to reciprocate the giving. God bless.
So many videos lately! Loving it!
That delta ring tool never made sense to me either. I dont see the need. Might have to try a build. What barrels do you prefer? Do you worry about chrome lined vs this or that? Or steel type, 4140. 4150, stainless? Thoughts on 223 wylde vs 5.56. I believe the M1 garands were 4140 steel barrels.
Very nice, a KISS METHOD.
Are you a Frenchman? I hear there’s a lot of French in Maine.
my elbow clicks at 35 ft/lbs i got a beam torque wrench just like that. its only 30 yrs old
What did they call the "Delta" Ring back in your day? And what do you think about the free floating barrel craze you see on all these new AR's? Are they worth it or just eye candy? Thanks for the video on America's most popular rifle.
Excellent tips as usual. Thanks!
I'm a new ar15 owner. Your videos have been so helpful because I plan on using this platform to hunt varmints size animals and deer and I want to be ethical about what size round to use on a white-tail deer in Michigan and West Virginia it's legal to hunt with a 223 Whitetail but I want to show respect towards the animal and what is giving by providing meat for my family. thank you and God bless
Nice!
