Less Lethal home defense – binoculars, light, laser!

Nikon binoculars, Feyachi light, and Pinty laser are cheap and reliable for dealing with potential long-distance threats. Personal protection is all about scaring someone off if at all possible. I don’t believe you have to spend a fortune to be safe. We’re not warriors in the military. Most cases of random encounters are not expert attackers. Sometimes just showing something intimidating like a powerful light or laser will change someone’s mind. If you don’t have to fire a shot then that’s a win everyday.

Disclaimer: Legally you should never point a weapon at anyone even on your property if you goal is identification only. I know the case can be made that on your property at night all bets are off and that may be true to some extent. But in this video I talk about a general rule that applies for EDC and it is something that everyone should keep in mind from a legal perspective. Also, remember than even a laser can be considered a weapon depending on how it’s used. Never point directly in the eyes of someone. That’s what your flashlight is for.

I recommend separate sets of lights and laser from the one’s that are on your weapon. Use binoculars instead of weapon-mounted sights to make your identification. Trust me, these days you can be sued or charged for doing anything improper (or perceived improper) with your weapon. That includes airguns, paintball markers, and firearms.

Stick around to the end for fireworks over the lake. It was a nice New Year’s show.

  1. Definitely.! Some high powered ones for the home too. Too heavy to carry around. My ex has a super light pair at a very usable power; they look like yours but more plasticky. They might be for bird watching.
I don't think i like green lasers now. That thing about no blink response scared me a little.
