  1. Respectfully, I have to question the decision of turning down the barrel for the bipod. I've considered building something somewhat similar, and from my personal experience using similar systems as well as everything I've read, the heavy barrel is basically necessary. Since this essentially fills the role of the "automatic rifle" (although this is not automatic), part of the whole point is to not have to carry or change barrels. The catch is that you're stuck with that barrel, at least until you get home. That's fine for the range, but every other aspect of this would probably be fine for actual use.

    The thing is, why not just fabricate something that fits the barrel rather than removing material from the barrel itself? AFIK, RPK bipods aren't that hard to come by, I would've much rather change out the mount on that than compromise on barrel thickness in any way–especially if it wasn't completely necessary. Have you noticed any more heat in that spot compared to the rest of the barrel? I'd be interested in seeing some testing on heat dissipation based on rounds over period of time in rapid fire. Let me know if you think I'm just hand-wringing over nothing.
