On Saturday, April 11th, the Kansas Legislature adjourned sine die from the 2026 legislative session.

This session saw a critical victory for gun owners, with Governor Laura Kelly signing House Bill 2501 on Thursday, April 9th. HB 2501 removes suppressors and short-barreled firearms from the controlled weapons list at the state level, ensuring that future changes in Federal law do not prevent law-abiding Kansans from possessing and utilizing suppressors to protect their hearing while hunting or exercising their Second Amendment rights. It also states that Kansas-based FFLs are immune from civil liability when returning firearms to their owners after a firearm hold agreement.

NRA thanks Governor Kelly, House and Senate leadership for advancing HB 2501, all legislators who supported, and all NRA Members and fellow Second Amendment advocates who engaged with their legislators this session. NRA will return to Topeka for the 2027 session. Please stay tuned to your email inbox and www.NRAILA.org for further updates.
