Recently, both Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday signed a reciprocity agreement offered by Pennsylvania to Virginia. Per the agreement, Pennsylvania will now recognize all Concealed Handgun Permits (CHPs) issued to legal residents of Virginia. The agreement is currently effective.
NRA-ILA began conversations with Attorney General Dave Sunday to re-establish concealed carry reciprocity with Virginia shortly after his election, and those conversations continued through the Spring into May when the agreement was getting finalized. That agreement has now been signed!
“Shortly after taking office, I asked my staff to review opportunities to maximize reciprocity agreements with willing states, and ensure all existing and future agreements to protect and respect standing law and constitutional rights,” Attorney General Dave Sunday said. “Our research of law in both states revealed nothing conflicting that would disallow permit holders to carry in both states.”
“For the past seven years, former occupants of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office played politics with constitutional rights and left Virginians traveling to the Keystone State defenseless,” said John Commerford, NRA-ILA Executive Director. “The NRA thanks Attorneys General Sunday and Miyares for entering into this critical agreement that respects the right of law-abiding Virginians to defend themselves and their loved ones. We look forward to continuing our work to defend and strengthen Second Amendment freedoms in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and beyond.”
