Although there is some logic to your suggestion, I currently have only AR 15's, in both 556 & 300blk, between these 2. I also have an M1A and am in the process of acquiring an AR 10.
If AK's were still priced at their true value point, around $3-400 or if the 7.62×39 ammo was still around $.15 per/ round, I would aquire one.
I do think that it has better ballistics at a range of 200+ yards than a carbine 556, but not better than 7.62 NATO…
If we are invaded by Russia and/or China then the AK ammo and parts will be plentiful, but in most other cases, it will be a non issue.

Agree. And for magazine compatibility. 223/5.56 AK and 7.62×39 AR magazines are not common.
I went with the AR15 because of the modularity. Parts are plentiful even with the 'mutant' calibers, and if push comes to shove, it's easier to have complete uppers to run. AK's lack a lot of modularity if you're not buying something very similar, like a Galil. That's just my 2 cents' worth.
I just have the AR15 that i built, i dont see the need for me anyways to have both. I spend way to much on ammo as it is for the AR and 9mm, just ask my girlfriend 😅

Good evening, Brother. I wholeheartedly agree with acquiring one of each, in the calibers you had mentioned. My AR 15 is an LWRC equipped with a weapon light and an eotech optic. My AKM is an Arsenal SLR 107fr.
For a while I have been wanting an AKM in 5.45×39 but the ammo in this caliber is so expensive, I have reluctantly shelved that want.
It makes more sense to obtain, procure and have parts available before the crap goes down for where do you expect to find the parts you will need in such a dire situation?
Not long ago I started seeing AR's in 350 Legend but never learned the rationale for that combo.
