Sounds like an installation error to me.
If you place riffle upside down in your lap when installing ,it goes on pretty easy . Don't know about the gizmo for locking the tilt you added, bit the bipod hold up to a light TC compass in .308
What do you think about using it on a Savage 10 ba stealth 6.5 Creedmoor?
Too bad that the bipod didn't work out as you had planned, but, at least you did find another use for it anyway so it appears to be salvaged. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Take care my friend.
