Shooting the Ruger Mini-14 TARGET

My friend bought a Ruger Mini-14 Target, and here he sights it in to get it on paper. This is an interesting rifle that I’d not seen before with its adjustable harmonic tuner. This is a short (4 minutes) part one getting in on paper at 50 yards. Had some issues with Tula ammo (silver tip).

  1. I have the same rifle, and almost had a major incident due to the Tul Ammo. I had a misfire, and loaded another round. As I went to fire again I stopped just prior to firing because I felt something strange when I worked the action. The Tul round had fired the primer only which lodged the bullet about 4" down the barrel. Very close call

  2. Don't understand trying to shoot accurate using cheap Russian ammo. Put a match grade barrel and trigger in it and get some good ammo if you want good groups. A better scope would help too.

  3. Thanks for the video. I have the same rifle, same scope. It is difficult to find information on this rifle. Ruger recommended to me to not use steel, only brass American made ammo. Did you ever make a follow-up video. Did you find a best weight of bullet; 55, 62, 75 for the 1:9 twist rate of the barrel and the harmonic dampener?

  4. Great rifle, have had one for many years. Was just thinking about getting it back out the other day. Been a while since I've shot it. I have a 3-9x scope mounted to it, and it will hit 8" steel disc at 300 yards all day long with out trying too hard. I'd like to put a higher power scope on it soon and see what kind of grroups it will keep. Don't knock the Tulla ammo, it works well for me. I've shot hundreds of rounds of it through various AR's and only have had 1 FTF ever. Group well too. Ecspecially if you can find the 62 and 75 grain versions. This rifle does REALLY well with heavier bullet weights in my experience when compared to the 55 grain version. Must be a thing with 1:9 twist rated barrels, because a 16" DPMS heavy barrel that I own likes the same heavier bullets. Enjoy the rifle, I think they are pretty cool in comparison to all the AR platforms that everyone wants.

  5. Tula ammo is not recommended for this firearm (you are not the only to experience this). I'm using Federal FMJBT 55gr with awesome success. I'm out to 500 yds with mostly < 6" group (<1" @ 100yds) using the harmonic dampener tuned in. These are factory loads folks. I can hardly wait to to do handholds with this. The harmonic dampener makes a HUGE difference. Nice review, excellent rifle!

  6. awesome fun gun ..changed out my stock for the archangel precision .  and put in a lighter  trigger spring  . now its about a 1 lb pull . topped her with the Nikon 3×12 223 … shes a beautiful little shooter . love it !!!!

  7. Oh yeah, you need to break that bad daddy back out. You should be able to punch the same holes at 50yards with that rifle. It will easily shoot sub MOA accuracy at 100 yards. I put a Shilen target barrel on mine and it can shoot 1/4 inch groups with good brass, and I'm gonna have to say the official Target Mini has the edge cause of the tuner. I know a few guys that took the tuner off to loose some weight and tuned in a good hunting load the old fashion way. Congrats on one hell of a shooter!

  8. Have no knowledge about m14, except heritage, I have decided this exact model will be next in my collection. Can the be pillar or glass bedded? what happens when coupling the harmonic dampner witn a sims deresonator. I need a 250 yard target rifle, is this it? I have the AR 15 and 10s. Im wanting something old school and accurate, its definetly easy on the eyes.
