If I have a AR-15 7.62×39 Rifle 16" Barrel 15" Hybrid MLOK Handguard could I put a 5 inch barrel on there instead of the 16”?

May be a stupid question but simply swapping out an AR pistol upper to a 16" barrel should avoid any red tape as they try to strip rights away come dec-april right? I believe it it will be overturned, regardless, but been considering a longer barrel for hunting & that much needed extra range 5.5" will give. Tbh even at poverty tier, I'm seeing full PSA daily deal guns in 556/300BO/7.62 in the 400-500$ range whereas I'd spend at min 50-60% for an upper alone. Assuming I get my carry gun handed down, (such a blessing) I've got some serious learning and stocking to do in the 2A world. For a FT, live in unpaid caretaker I've been able to make strides much further than K thought possible when I started learning the hobby that quickly turned into a way of life due to the decline of the country, but the green leap forward stops for no one, & better getting started late than the strategy I see most. Bury their head in tbe sand. If anyone has a budget IR/NV optic sub 500$ range I may dip into crypto as its been subverted & does nothing when the power is intentionally overloaded to beta test our readtions, along with large box stores cancelling Billions of orders of produce, etc. Subbed. What flash can do u have on the 762

I think you forget to change the Mag well for 5.56?

All I need is 762 upper and I can use my same lower I use for my 556
