Hand held task lights, sure they can pull double duty pairing one with a pistol. However Task lights are just that. They are smaller pocket style flashlights for every day use.

I’d disagree that you can’t use them as self defense lights; shining a light directly into someone’s eyes at night for even a second is enough to temporarily blind them and make a decision to escape. Try it on yourself sometime, you’ll have a blind spot on your optic nerve/rods & cones.
Chris your the man dude so sad I moved and was not able to go to your advanced class. I carry a microstream all day every day. Having moved into the country I now have a polytac that I take out at night to take out the dogs make sure no wildlife is around

I switch between EDC lights depending on where and what I’m doing. Streamlight Protact 2L-X and Olight i5. 2L-X for walking the dogs and searching the house if I need to and i5t if I’m just going to the truck or mailbox or going to town.
Streamlight’s and Toyota’s; two of my favorite subjects, lol. Have 3 Streamlight’s: 1L-1AA takes CR123 or AA, so can essentially always find a battery, keep in backpack. 2L-X is my EDC, takes 18650 or 2 CR123, perfect size in hand and bezel isn’t too large. HL-X, great output as you mention, also keep in backpack and use when expected to be outdoors at night for any length of time. Their customer service is great too. Good overview guys!
You didn't touch on the reversible pocket clip that allows you to clip the light to the brim of your hat for hands free use. I do that all the time with my Microstream. Super handy.
