Ar15 Build setup-Over the past year, I have asked my subscribers/viewers about their favorite components on their Ar-15 and I have compiled the results and compared it to a recent Ar-15 build that I have completed. Compare your rifle to the most popular set up on the planet. πŸ˜‰

  1. Very informative! You did a very thorough poll . I was very surprised of how many people run a nickel boron bolt carrier, I really like them myself. Tried a chrome one ,but the chrome flaked off (may have been bad quality control ?).

  2. I have 2 AR rifles. One is set up for 3 gun and the other is set up for home / personal defense. Both are Stag rifles in the LH configuration – would be interesting to hear from other viewers how many are also Left handed and whether or not they own and use a LH or RH AR.

  3. The question was barrel length for a rifle. A rifle with less than 16" barrel would be 'illegal' if not registered. However, ask most popular barrel length for an AR pistol and you would likely get very different answers. Probably 11.5" might be the most popular.

  4. My primary ar 15 is a lwrci m6 a5 individual carbine in a 10.5” sbr. I run this rifle suppressed. I don’t shoot beyond 200 yards and most of my shooting is done at 100 yards and under. I hand load every round I shoot.

  5. You didn’t ask what people were running. You asked β€œwhat do you prefer?” That may change some of your answers…. They may prefer to have something other than what they would prefer.

  6. My favorite setup is my mk12 mod0 clone. I opted for a side charging receiver, and decided to go 20" instead of 18" and used a Smith Vortex FH. Rifle length gas and buffer system with adjustable block, and a 1-8 twist over 1-7. 1-8 handles the widest range of ammunition effectively, though 55-77 gr are all close enough, that they'll stabilize well enough through 1-7, 1-8 or 1-9.

4150 crmov barrels are the way to go.

  7. On favorite primary defensive 11.5" pistol I run fixed iron (saw off carry handle rear and FSB) and t2 on bobro. but bobro isnt lower 1/3 like I wanted its slightly above but bobro come off fast n easy. This is foolproof but i would rather lower 1/3 and not needing to remove optic at all. I've considered switch out that upper for my monolithic COP upper to run rear iron in front of reddot and get aimpoint 6x magnifer or eotech 5x magnifer. But instead I just have reddot+fixie 11.5 and QD scoped 12.5 with BUIS in AERO C.O.P. monothic upper then DD S2W CL 18.5" in mega monoithic upper. Instead of trying to fill multiple role with one gun I divide the roles. The 12.5 is pretty capable middle ground. I have long three prong FH on all except a2 on 18.5. All castle nut staked! All BCG is phosphated. Have Nickel boron and nitrided as back up would have getten rid of them if they werent made by azimuth.

  8. Very interesting indeed! While my Sport II is pretty much stock (although I have a plastic/Mloc handguard), I found your polling format very informative (and a bit surprising–I expected 1/7 and chrome-lined barrels to be most popular) when considering how to configure upgrades and/or new rifles.

  9. I prefer m16 bolt carrier because freedom is easier to accomplish if we ever get that right back and I prefer iron m4 style sights I have a thing for the older M16 and m4 look it's more collectible to me my dmr is equipped with a holosun flip up sights and has a 1:9 twist I love it

  10. nice. I was looking at the ecotech hhs hybrid sight. With flip up irons. This is my first personal ar15. Plan on building 2 more. But see the need for more than that.

  11. Just discovered your channel. I went with m4 milspec everything as best I could. Probably from years I the army and not being into the fancy stuff. Age did drive the need to use a red dot. Good info. Thanks.

  12. That’s an interesting research nice job

It seems like maybe 10 or 15 years ago you could get tripped up between the mil spec and the commercial buffer tube but I hardly see any commercial buffer tubes being sold these days seems like mil spec won out on that.

  13. You were surprised so many chose nickel boron 09:14 for the bolt carrier group . . . But your question wasn't
"What type of bolt carrier group are you running" . . . It was "What is the best coating for a bolt carrier group".
Im running a phosphate but the best coating would be nickel boron so thats my answer . . . Its just not what I'm running.

  14. Ugh, I'm OLD SCHOOL M16 trained and still dig the 20" barrel to this day. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to re-arm myself with a Winchester '94 and keep things real simple now and leave the HIGH SPEED gear for the guys with more $$$$ than sense. 🀠

  15. Any more info on the upper receiver? The video definition (on my end, crappy internet) is too low to make out but that looks like a RRA integrated rear sight upper. Is it just a regular clamp on chopped A2 rear? What's the clamped section immediately after the rear sight and under the EoTech?

Personally it's harder to me to answer the surveys being in a restricted state and loving building rifles to a specialized/semi-specialized purpose. My fave is a true dissipator wylde nitride button cut on an A5 buffer system with MBT2S and LPVO for "long" range, for one purpose, and a 14.5" chrome lined mid gas using a dot and ARFX-E for another. Very hard to give honest answers to the surveys because they're both great at what they're meant for!

  16. The only problem with the "what kind of barrel?" question is that it should/could have been split up a bit, as one is the barrel material and the other is the lining or finish, so you could have multiple answers there and you may have had some people unable to answer wholly or to their satisfaction.
