10.18" AR-15 Barrel Cut/Threading

Well, I got this barrel as a 11.5 with a pined barrel extension. In my infinite wisdom I decided to cur the extension off and use the barrel on my pistol. One thing led to another and I threaded, rethreaded and cut the barrel until I came to the last possible chance to get the threads right. I trimmed the barrel diameter with files( I forgot to show that in the video).Hopefully this time it will work and I’ll be able to get some good life out of it. Enjoy

  1. What I usually find tricky is getting the cut on the barrel to be flat and square. That's why you see professionals run a lot of these operations with the barrel chucked up in a lathe. That way you know the end is square and you need only insert tooling to cut the threads. I'm interested in what kind of drill/Chuck you're running as, essentially, a makeshift lathe.

  2. I want to buy a PSA 10.5 and cut it down to 10.00 but I'm curious when you cut yours down did you notice the groupings widen up or shift at all? I'm debating if I want to do it myself or send it off to a gunsmith.

  3. I've got 3 questions, the first is. What is that tool your using to re thread the end of the barrel called? And is it a special cutter to get the correct threds? 2, why do you have to keep turning it, backing off, turning it and backing off? Is that necessary to do this or could you have just kept spinning it in one direction until it was finished? And 3 is it legal for anyone to do this (as long as its obviously not going to be under 16in)…like can I make my 21in barrel into an 18 or 16.5 in my garage legally or will I need to get permission from the ATF or have special licenses to alter the barrel of a fiream

  4. Hand cut threads might be alright for muzzle brakes and flash hiders. But with suppressors on the end of the barrel your best bet it to take it to a machine shop that specializes 8n that kind of work. But hey, it's your can and your barrel. Do what you want.

  5. Hey man I dig what your doing but I have one question and one suggestion well to questions. Did you true the muzzle up and crown it before you thread the barrel . Im betting your dwell time will be changed because the gas port hole is real close to the end of the barrel you might want to put a adjustable gas system on it and open the gas port hole a little and fine tune it .

  6. Hi! please tell me the correct size of annular cutter that I need to buy to remove the thickness of my 5.56 and 300aac barrel before threading? Also the correct size die and die handle for 5.56 and 300aac. Thanks.
