In today’s Muddy Rifle Test we look to determine which rifle will perform best in a muddy environment. The test gets progressively more difficult the further the video goes along. The results definitely surprised us and I hope you will enjoy the content and results we got from this video.

  1. With all due respect, this is not AKM, nor AK-105 never mind markings.. Romanian maybe one of best clones, but still far from original – look at this recoil spring.
Ak105 is also far from original mil-grade one, more like Saiga. It lake 3 things – mil barrel, auto fire and, first of all – modern mil ammo. Modern ammo is not available even in RU for civilian shooters btw)). And it has big difference with commercial, AP's able to penetrate APC's armour.

  2. Given how long the guns had to sit freezing in order to induce failures (it was so dark in that video and so late at night), I think this mud test, while also absurdly rough on the guns, is more compelling.

    Takeaways are:
    1. Don't use an M14.
    2. Keep your guns (somewhat) warm and not frozen.
    3. Always best to shake off any mud on your gun (duh).
    4. AKs (and similar platforms touting "loose tolerances") let more crud in than ARs (and other similar modern platforms that are quite well sealed).
    5. AKs have larger, chunkier moving parts with more space between them to let ice expand without locking it up, but if you follow (2), you won't have to worry about this.
    6. Don't use an M14.

However, with the exception of the M14, I think pretty much any one of them will serve you well if you take care of it and know how to deal with the situation (i.e. train). Just don't believe the internet myths (and Russian propaganda) about AKs.

  3. Big thumbs up for not only making your guns muddy but also having scopes and muzzle stuff and lasers get dirty. Like… They don't really influence whether a gun will work or not, but it's nice to see them take part in the test and your cleaning too.

  4. Great Video!!! People often criticize the direct gas impingement system of the AR15 because it blows powder residue into the action, but I have always argued that the DI system also blows junk out of the action. This video clearly supports that same conclusion. Powder residue is so fine that in all but the most neglected conditions poses little threat to functionality.
