Learn all about the best AR-15 and AR-10 barrel profiles and contours! Ashley compares and contrasts two of the most popular profiles, the M4 barrel profile and heavy barrel profile, to help you decide which one is best for you. M4 barrels have the advantages of great heat dissipation and lighter weight while heavy barrels help reduce recoil and take longer to heat up. Leave a like and comment to support the channel!

So I want a heavy barrel, 16ā, 1:7 twist with a mid length gas system for the 5.56 which Iām having a very hard time finding ANYONE who makes a CHF chrome lined barrelā¦.
What is the general weight difference between a standard barrel and a heavy one?. Is it serious like a pound or more?.
i have bca ss straight fluted 18" .223 wylde from you guys that performs like a champ! been running it since 2015 and the only thing that has malfunctioned was a bolt pin that just caused the brass to not cycle out properly but that was a quick $5 fix. not bad after dumping hundreds of rounds through it!
Great video, thank you sir!
Thanks for the breakdown
Is the side charging bolt carrier on the bca side charger a m16 bolt carrier?
I wish bear creek arsenal would make a 7.62×39 barrel with a mid length gas port
It is my understanding that bull barrels are stiffer, leading to higher accuracy. Barrels distort and whip during firing. The more flexible the barrel, the more exaggerated the oscillation.
Love BC uppers. They have served me well. Would like to see a QD type system to attach charging handle to the bolts on the side chargers. That would be a game changer
Great info thanks for sharing
Yes, the heavier barrels do make your rifle heavier!! I bought a 6.5 Grendel upper with only an 18" barrel, and it is quite heavy!! It's actually heavier than the 24" upper with the CMV barrel that I also bought from you!
Why don't you guys make more CMV steel barrels that are chrome lined? And why don't you make A2 rifles, ie., permanent carry handle, A2 front sights with a CMV, chrome lined, 20" barrel ?? Alot of people buy those because of their reliability and ease of use. I have 2 of them, but it was hell trying to find one!! All of the ones I found were "sold out" !!
Barrels & uppers are good, but your handgaurds SUCK! please fix the slanted ends!!!!!
Lol…… south of the border light.
I'm a beat up old cripple now, but when I was much healthier and could still hunt, I used to walk for up to 15 miles a day in spot and stalks, or in the case of elk, choosing which canyons to go down into, over the brow of canyon into the next canyon, and I did it carrying a full weight rifle, pack, and ammo!
When a person is healthy, I don't want to hear ANY whining about carrying a full contour barrel: the heavy barrels are more stable, more rigid, and provide a more accurate firing platform (especially for elk calibers, such as my .338 RUM). You CANNOT obviate the laws of physics, so final prepping for an upcoming hunt should involved REGULAR shooting/target practice so you do NOT miss the shot the elk provides you!
Besides, far too many city folks don't get enough exercise in the first place, so just think of a heavy contour barrel as quality isometrics!
@Bear Creek: I just wish you'd get off the dime and offer a RIFLE length gas set up on your carbines for smoother actions and CARBINE length on your 10.5"-12.5" pistol length barrels, again for smoother actions and less recoil.
I'm still hoping to buy one of your Complete Uppers in .300 B.O. in a 12.5" Extra Heavy Barrel with a CARBINE length gas system configuration: greater stability, less recoil because of barrel weight and length of gas tube; I just keep hoping you'll offer your complete uppers with one of those Gas Piston system for cleaner operation and even smoother action.
Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
Iād love a light profile 14.5ā 7.62×39 and 14.5ā 458 socom barrels. Light AR pistols are my fav to plink with
Good video
Thx for the vid, always learning something new
why dont you list a table of barrel specs like weight length fluting diameter etc on your website? iknow it could be large, but that is OK! instead of trying to compare each upper!
Still waiting for a 16inch fluted barrel in 7.62Ć39.
Really love BCA uppers and happy the prices are coming back down. But I did order my last upper when it wasn't on sale so y'all got a little more coin to stay open longer. And about an hour away so it's a local company that's veteran owned. Every upper will come from BCA
