As a Marine Corps veteran, Aaron wanted his first gun to be something that was both functional and connected him back to his time in service. He also wanted something that he could really make his own on a budget.
That made an AR-15 rifle the perfect choice. He was already trained on the platform in the military, and it had a sentimental connection back to his experiences as a Marine. At the same time, ARs offered a wealth of options for customization that wouldn’t break the bank.

Watching this legitimately gave me cancer
The first rifle I learned to shoot was a M-16A2. It’s definitely a lot nicer being able to customize my own AR and not have to clean it for 12 hours straight lol

My first gun was made by Mattel. It's was an M16 like the one I used in the military. If you get the money, try a binary trigger from Franklin Armory. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Congratulations on your first gun!
cool gun
Finding the ammo is the problem.

Best wishes to the "FREE" world.
It really is the perfect first gun. In 223 it has light recoil and (typically) available ammo. Mine was my first rifle, and I built it from the ground up from an assortment of parts. Calibers from 17 hmr all the way up to the 500 auto max are available.
