AR-15 Cleaning

This video is a demonstation of how I clean and maintain my AR15 platform firearms. I’ve owned, fired, and maintained at least one of these rifles since since purchasing in 1984 that A2 model you’ve seen in my videos. I’m not an AR15 “expert” like some I’m sure we’ll hear from, and I’ve not been to war with one of these babies, but what I do works for me.

  1. Way back when I was a small kid( I'm a big kid now) my Dad and I used plain old 3 in 1 oil to clean and lube our firearms and never had a problem. Also used Neats foot oil on our boots. Been a few decades ago.

  2. There is no such thing as both cleaning and lubricating.
All of these aerosol solutions are first and foremost solvents and the oil to be used should be heavier. I always clean my P228 with WD40 or so, and then when clean & dry – I oil it with engine oil. When I served in the IDF and we had to (unfortunatly) switch from our Glilon rifles to those fragile & unrealiable AR's (M16 and all their verions), we just sticked the complete cleaned bolt mechanism in oil, installed, pulled a few times the charging handle, opened the gun and cleaned the barrel. And that was it. Worked very good for me and my unit mates, should be ok for all other out there. Note again – keep the barrel clean.

  3. I always heavily oil my M-4, and use my drill w/ a cleaning rod attached to clean the barrel, then
for a quick cleaning, I also clean the bolt and bolt carrier real well…. No WD-40 !!

  4. im picking up my very first AR-15 Colt M4 6920 in 8 days from waiting period Jail here in CA. Your video was very helpful and i cant wait to take mine apart for the first time lube it up and go fire it and clean it again!

  5. How many shots can you shoot until you clean and how many days until you need to clean since your last shooting, and how long will lubing last for the gun

  6. As a firearms novice, this video helped tremendously. Extremely easy to follow and the explanations for doing any of the steps are thorough. I felt intimidated about taking my AR apart but it felt like a walk in the park with this walkthrough.

  7. Big fan, but. Hahaha man oh man I just love my Ruger 14 all the more. Carbon never gets anywhere near the bolt. Wish you would have made this video 5 min. Longer with complete cleaning Ruger 14. I'm still laughing.

  8. Thanks for this sir. I spent hours looking through videos on cleaning ARs, and this is hands down the best on Youtube. I appreciate you. Wouldn’t have been able to get it done without you.
